The 33-year-old’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of June and last night Cole tweeted that he looks set to join a new club:

John Percy of The Telegraph says that Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring the experience of Cole to Anfield to bolster Liverpool’s defensive options.

He writes on Tuesday:

Cole is considering offers from the Premier League and overseas, believed to include Liverpool and Real Madrid, and has gone away on holiday to decide on his next move.

Cole, 33, could even retire from football but it seems more likely that he will pursue one final move before bringing down the curtain on his career.

It’s not the first time Cole has been linked with a move to Liverpool, with speculation ongoing since February.

Last month, ahead of Chelsea‘s Premier League clash agains the Reds at Anfield, Cole praised the ability of Rodgers’ side.

“I think when you’ve got people like Stevie Gerrard feeding Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling through balls, with their pace they are kind of unstoppable,” he told beIN Sports.

“Liverpool have shown this season with the amount of goals they’ve scored, and the individual performances they’ve shown too, that they should be where they are now, top of the table, fully deserved.

“Look at Luis Suarez. He is very hard and if you look at half his goals when he’s in the box, he’s got that chop where he tries to put it through your legs and you just can’t stop him.

“His awareness, his movement, his finishing – he is, for sure, at the minute one of the best players in the world.”
