Reports last week suggested Lallana “has his heart set on a move to Anfield” (Mirror) and “has decided on Merseyside” (Daily Mail), with Liverpool set to table a £25 million bid (The Times).

The 25-year-old winger has had a stunning season with the Saints, culminating in him being named in the PFA Team of the Year, and several England call-ups.

But when collecting Player of the Year awards at Southampton‘s end of season ceremony on Tuesday night, Lallana reiterated his loyalty to the south-coast side.

“The club means the world to me,” he is quoted in the Mirror as saying.

“I’ve been here since I was 12 and I want to keep progressing with the club.
“I’ve got a great relationship with the fans. We’ve been on a journey, and this is the icing on the cake.”

But then, was he ever going to say “my heart’s at Liverpool” at the club’s award gala?

Last week on This Is Anfield, we brought you a report on how Lallana would fit in at Anfield if indeed the reports linking him with a move to Merseyside are true.
