Liverpool touch down in Boston for USA tour

Liverpool have arrived in Boston for the start of their pre-season tour of the USA this summer.

The Reds will be based in Boston, using some of the facilities owned by owners Fenway Sports Group and their baseball club the Red Sox.

After this Wednesday’s friendly against Roma at Fenway Park, Liverpool face Olympiacos in Chicago, Manchester City in New York and AC Milan in Charlotte, North Carolina.

It is also the chance for the club to grow their brand and worldwide support with a series of commercial opportunities for fans stateside to get involved with.

Upon touchdown at Logan International Airport, Rodgers told the club’s official USA tour website, “We’re delighted to have returned to the United States, and I am very proud to bring the Liverpool squad to see some of our most loyal and passionate fans in the world.

“Personally, I have fond memories of our last visit to America in 2012 as it was my first pre-season in charge of this great club.

“Two years on, we’re really excited about meeting some of our incredible supporters face to face once again and demonstrating exactly why we are the greatest football family in the world.

“There’s a lot of hard work in store over the next two weeks, and this trip will be very important in terms of preparing the players for the challenges ahead in 2014-15 but we are looking forward to connecting with our fans in Boston, Chicago, New York and Charlotte.”

The tour comes after Liverpool’s opening pre-season friendlies of the summer — a 2-1 defeat at Brondby and a 2-1 victory at Preston North End.

The full match schedule in the USA as it stands is:

  • 23 July – AS Roma (Fenway Park, Boston)
  • 27 July – Olympiacos (Soldier Field, Chicago)
  • 30 July – Manchester City (Yankee Stadium, New York)
  • 2 August – AC Milan (Charlotte, North Carolina)
