Liverpool fans react to Alberto Moreno signing

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter and the This Is Anfield Forums to welcome Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno to the club.

Alberto Moreno

Moreno move was completed this week after lengthly negotiations with Sevilla, with the Reds unveiling the 22-year-old on Saturday evening.

Liverpool chief executive officer Ian Ayre is thought to have negotiated Sevilla’s original asking price of £20 million down to £12 million and sealed the deal before the season gets underway.

However, Moreno’s paperwork wasn’t completed in time for him to play in Liverpool’s opening game of the 2014/15 Premier League season against Southampton on Sunday, meaning he could be given a baptism of fire when Brendan Rodgers’ side go to Manchester City on Monday, 25th August.

He will wear the No. 18 shirt for Liverpool, last worn by by Dutch attacker Dirk Kuyt.

The general consensus in fan reaction to the signing of Moreno seems to be one of relief — a dragged out transfer saga and a much-needed addition to the team.

RichLFC in the forums:

We have signed some players with high talent potential ceilings, this guy being one of them, and it is an area we needed a proper player and not another duffer or cheap option. So in isolation, this one seems one of the better ones this summer, along with a makeover of our back four.

Zinedine Biscan in the forums:

Got a good feeling about this one, may take a bit of time to settle, but think by Christmas he’ll be flying. Best LB in the league, potentially.

mpoletti in the forums:

Can’t wait to see Alberto grow and improve with the other youngsters we have coming through.

Redragbull in the forums:

Nice to see this done at long last, but worth the wait hopefully. We get to keep Suso as well. Good business.
