Liverpool’s Disappointing Loan Deals: Not much action for injured and unused loan players

Ben Twelves rounds up how the loaned members of the Liverpool squad performed for their temporary clubs in the last week – with many not seeing any action either due to injury or simply not being favoured at their temporary clubs.

Divock Origi

Belgian international striker Origi started and completed all 90 minutes for Lille on Thursday night in their Group H Europa League encounter against Everton in France.

The 19-year-old produced a lively performance for Rene Girard’s side and was by far the home teams’ biggest threat throughout the match; producing some fantastic skill and often at the centre of any good attacking play from the hosts.

Origi’s impressive display in the Europa League on Thursday night meant the Belgian kept his place in the starting line-up on Sunday afternoon, for Lille’s match away to Rennes in Ligue 1.

Liverpool’s £10million man played all 90 minutes for his loan club in their 2-0 defeat, and he endured a quiet game – registering only one off-target effort – as his side slipped to defeat.

Origi then played the full 90 minutes as Lille lost 2-0 at Rennes on Sunday, a result that sees them down to 11th in Ligue 1.

Jordon Ibe

18-year-old talent Jordon Ibe played 75 minutes for Derby in midweek, as his side moved to the top of the Championship table with a hard fought 1-0 win away at Blackpool.

The Liverpool loanee started on the left side of a three man attack before he was replaced by striker Leon Best, as Steve McClaren altered his team as they went in search of a late winner which arrived with nine minutes remaining.

Ibe started for the third time in a week for Derby on Saturday in their disappointing 2-1 home defeat against strugglers Wigan.

However, the Reds’ youngster played only 45 minutes of the fixture after being withdrawn at half time, but he came close to breaking the deadlock in the first half when his shot hit the side netting.

Andre Wisdom

After producing an excellent performance on Monday night against Manchester United – a game that saw the Reds youngster claim his first assist for his temporary club – Wisdom kept his shirt in the right back position for the visit of Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

The Liverpool loanee completed all 90 minutes for Alan Irvine’s team in an eventful 2-2 draw at the Hawthorns, a game which his side battled back from 2-0 down in to claim a useful point.

Wisdom had a hand in his sides’ stoppage time equaliser from Saido Berahino too – as he played a decent forward pass into Victor Anichebe, who turned, attempted to get a shot away but was then brought down in the box, winning the spot kick.

Joao Carlos Teixeira

After suffering concussion last weekend following some rough treatment from Middlesbrough, Liverpool’s Portuguese playmaker was left out of the squad for Brighton’s trip to Huddersfield on Tuesday night.

Teixeira was reintroduced to the match-day squad on Saturday afternoon however, for his side’s 1-1 home draw against Rotherham United.

The 20-year-old started the game on the bench after recovering from concussion suffered last week, but entered proceedings as a second half substitute coming on in the 80th minute, as Sami Hyypia searched for a late winner which unfortunately never arrived.

Iago Aspas

Spanish striker Aspas was an unused substitute for Sevilla on Thursday night, for their Europa League clash against Standard Liege in Belgium that ended goalless.

Continuing to see his game time limited, Aspas once again started on the bench for Unai Emery’s team on Sunday evening as they hosted Villarreal.

However, this time the Spaniard was introduced to proceedings after 74 minutes – replacing once rumoured Liverpool transfer target Kevin Gameiro up front.

Late drama saw Sevilla fight back from 1-0 down to win the game 2-1, and after being awarded a stoppage time penalty, Aspas was denied the chance to take the spot kick when strike partner Carlos Bacca wrestled the ball off the Liverpool man to take and convert it himself.

Oussama Assaidi

After coming off the bench to set-up the winner for Stoke last week in their 2-1 success over Swansea, Moroccan wide-man Assaidi disappointingly started as a substitute once again for Mark Hughes’ side in their 1-0 defeat against high-flying Southampton.

The 27-year-old entered proceedings with just over 10 minutes remaining – replacing former Red Victor Moses on the left side of a ‘3’ behind ex-Liverpool striker Peter Crouch – but he had little time to make a genuine impact on the match with his side already trailing.

Luis Alberto

Attacking midfielder, Alberto, was left out of the match-day squad for loan side Malaga for the second match running, in their impressive 4-0 win against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday morning.

Sebastian Coates

Uruguayan centre back Coates was once again left out of the Sunderland match-day squad through injury against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, a game which his loan club lost 2-0 at the Stadium of Light.

Tiago Ilori

Portuguese central defender Ilori missed Bordeaux’s 3-0 away loss against Paris Saint Germain on Saturday afternoon, as he continues to recover from a thigh injury picked up before the international break.

Rafa Paez

Liverpool’s Spanish under 21 centre back was an unused substitute for Bologna on Friday night in their goalless draw away to Modena in Serie B.
