Brendan Rodgers confirms Daniel Sturridge “highly unlikely” to face Real Madrid

Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge posted a photo on his instagram account on Monday showing him boarding the plane for Madrid with the rest of the Liverpool squad – sending the news hungry media intro a frenzy over whether he may actually feature in the game.

Of course, rather than wait until until Brendan Rodgers gave his press conference on Monday evening at the Bernabeu, many outlets decided that two plus two equals five and thus Sturridge has somehow had a miracle recovery – despite Rodgers saying last week that he won’t be back until after the international break.

Alas, the boss confirmed at the press conference that Sturridge, along with all the other injured players such as Suso and Jon Flanagan, had traveled to be part of the squad.

“It’s highly unlikely he’ll be fit. I’ve brought all the players out. It’s a sign we’re very much together,” explained the boss.

On the match itself, Rodgers said: “We’re really looking forward to these big games. We see them as an opportunity.

“We’re still in the hunt in the group… they’re probably the best team in the world at the moment, but we can challenge them.”
