Liverpool lost 3-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford, and we assess how each Reds player performed on the day.

Football - FA Premier League - Manchester United FC v Liverpool FC

BRAD JONES- 6

Jones was brought in for Simon Mignolet, and he was solid throughout. He could do little about any of United’s goals.

Vote Jones as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

GLEN JOHNSON- 5.5

The 30-year-old was average during his 25 minutes on the pitch, before being replaced by Kolo Toure after picking up an injury.

Vote Johnson as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

MARTIN SKRTEL- 5

The Slovakian was pretty disappointing yet again. He didn’t get close enough to Robin van Persie in the lead-up to Juan Mata’s goal, and he didn’t look convincing at any point.

Vote Skrtel as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

DEJAN LOVREN- 5

Lovren continues to look out of his depth and an accident waiting to happen. His poor clearance played a big part in van Persie making it 3-0 in the second-half.

Vote Lovren as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

ALBERTO MORENO- 5.5

The 22-year-old was deployed as a wing-back, but his defensive ineptitude was highlighted on a number of occasions. He seems to lack sense at times, and he should have done read the danger better for Rooney’s goal.

Vote Moreno as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

JORDAN HENDERSON- 6

Henderson still isn’t on top form by any means, but he kept trying and worked his socks off at right wing-back. He didn’t look too comfortable in the role, but he was solid.

Vote Henderson as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

JOE ALLEN- 4

Allen was pitiful from start to finish. His passing lacked incisiveness, physically he was embarrassing at times and he was too easily beaten by Antonio Valencia for Rooney’s goal. Nowhere near good enough from the Welshman.

Vote Allen as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

STEVEN GERRARD- 5.5

The skipper never managed to stamp his authority on the game, and he struggled in a deeper midfield role than of late. Defensively he was lacking at times.

Vote Gerrard as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

PHILIPPE COUTINHO- 5.5

The Brazilian always looks threatening on the ball, but what actually comes of it? He tried to do the impossible too often, while his defensive work in the build-up to Rooney’s goal was absolutely unacceptable.

Vote Coutinho as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

ADAM LALLANA- 6.5

Lallana was arguably Liverpool’s best player in the first-half, showing quick feet and clever movement. He was withdrawn by Brendan Rodgers at half-time, however, which seemed baffling, though he was playing through two cracked ribs.

Vote Lallana as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

RAHEEM STERLING- 5.5

The 20-year-old was a constant threat, but his finishing was the difference between the two sides. He could easily have scored a hat-trick, if not more- Daniel Sturridge would have- but instead saw his poor finishes stopped by David de Gea time and time again.

Vote Sterling as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

Substitutes

KOLO TOURE (on for Johnson 25)- 6

The 33-year-old did little wrong when he came on, and should have been on at the start.

Vote Toure as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

MARIO BALOTELLI (on for Lallana 46)- 5.5

The Italian added a little more physicality in attack, and had a couple of efforts on goal, but he was as unpredictable as ever.

Vote Balotelli as your Man of the Match on Twitter:

LAZAR MARKOVIC (on for Moreno 68)- 5.5

The Serb produced one lovely pass to find Balotelli, but was otherwise ineffective.

Vote Markovic as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
