Mario Balotelli returns to training and could face Man United

Mario Balotelli has returned to full training with Liverpool and could play a part vs Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

The Italian striker has missed the last six fixtures since picking up an injury in training while on international duty last month.

“He’s only just come back into training so we will see what his fitness is like,” confirmed Rodgers. “In the last few days he’s looked good and we’ll give him every chance.”

In his absence, Rickie Lambert has started six games in a row – inside 16 days. The physical demands of such a run of games took it’s toll on the 32-year-old, being subbed at half-time of the Basel match.

The boss also confirmed Kolo Toure should be fit after missing the 1-1 draw with Basel on Tuesday night.

Adam Lallana should also be available, despite suffering from two broken ribs in recent weeks.

Provisional squad: Mignolet, Johnson, Lovren, Skrtel, Moreno, Lucas, Henderson, Lallana, Gerrard, Sterling, Lambert, Jones, Manquillo, Enrique, Toure, Can, Coutinho, Allen, Markovic, Balotelli, Borini.
