Gerrard takes his place among the subs, along with the returning Lucas Leiva and Mario Balotelli.

That means Jordan Henderson and Joe Allen continue in centre midfield. Either Raheem Sterling or Adam Lallana will play on the right.

Daniel Sturridge continues up front.

Man United are also unchanged from the side that beat Spurs 3-0 last Sunday.

Liverpool: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Sakho, Sterling, Henderson, Allen, Moreno, Lallana, Coutinho, Sturridge.

Subs: Jones, Johnson, Toure, Gerrard, Lambert, Lucas, Balotelli

Man United: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Blind, Carrick, Herrera, Mata, Fellaini, Young, Rooney

Subs: Valdes, Rafael, Rojo, Di Maria, Januzaj, A Pereira, Falcao.

Kick off at Anfield is 1.30pm GMT (live on Sky Sports in the UK).
