Reports: Kolo Toure to stay at Liverpool – James Milner to join him

Saturday’s papers feature reports that Kolo Toure has agreed a new 12-month contract at Liverpool, while James Milner will join the Reds on a free transfer from Man City this summer.

Toure’s current contract expires this summer and the 34-year-old had been expected to leave the club, with Major League Soccer a possible destination.

However, with more pressing concerns for Liverpool this summer, the club have been keen to keep Toure around and now expect him to sign a new deal, reports Paul Joyce of the Express.

Liverpool would then have four centre-backs at the club and be able to spend their resources in the attacking areas instead.

Brendan Rodgers will also give Andre Wisdom a chance to make a claim as the regular right-back in pre-season.

Meanwhile, Milner could follow Toure in making a free transfer move from Man City to Liverpool. The Mirror report that the English midfielder is expected to choose Liverpool over Arsenal.

They claim Milner, 29, “believes he will have more opportunities to play his favourite central midfield role” at Anfield and “is also attracted to Liverpool because he will not have to uproot his young family when he leaves the Etihad”.

They claim he will sign a £100,000 per week deal at Anfield.
