Goalkeeper Brad Jones has confirmed he will leave Liverpool this summer, posting a goodbye note on Instagram after the final home game of the season.

Jones was said to be furious earlier this month after Liverpool performed a u-turn on a new contract for the 33-year-old.

The Australian has since been overlooked for young Danny Ward as the substitute goalkeeper in the recent games against QPR, Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

Jones wrote: “I would have loved to have stayed at the club I have supported since the age of 5 but sometimes the dream ends.”

“I would also like to add my thanks to all the LFC fans for the support that I have received over the past 5 years.”

Jones lost his son, Luca, to leukaemia in 2011 and later that same season lined up in goal for The Reds at Wembley after suspension to Pepe Reina and injury to Alexander Doni.

“It has been the best and worst periods of my life and I have always felt the warmth of these amazing people.

“I got to play in some amazing games, 2 Merseyside derbies with one being at Wembley which will stay with me forever.

“From myself and my family, Thank You!”

Strange to think Stevie will no longer wear the red of LFC. He's been the clubs icon for many a year and carried the team at times. It's an honour to have been a teammate and also to have played against him. Certain players can make others better in their presence, Stevie has definitely been that player. I would also like to add my thanks to all the LFC fans for the support that I have received over the past 5yrs. It has been the best and worst periods of my life and I have always felt the warmth of these amazing people. I would have loved to have stayed at the club I have supported since the age of 5 but sometimes the dream ends.
