Every summer is the same for Brendan Rodgers: a host of names out, with another group drafted in. This upcoming transfer window is set to be the same for Liverpool, according to reports.

David Maddock of the Mirror claims that Fabio Borini will lead a group of at least eight players to leave Merseyside this summer.

“The Reds have slapped a £10m asking price on their out of favour striker, with the Italian inspiring interest from Fiorentina, Lazio and Sunderland,” Maddock writes.

“Boss Brendan Rodgers has made clear to the Italian he is not part of plans, and after a season spent in the wilderness, he seems to have accepted he has no future at the club.

“That has sparked a scramble for the striker’s services, and the Reds are now confident his departure will pave the way for a serious purge, with Rodgers looking to offload at least eight players.”

Others names set to be sold if possible are Sebastian Coates, Mario Balotelli and Luis Alberto, while Rodgers is apparently “desperate to offload” on-loan right-back Javier Manquillo.

“There could even be a couple of surprise sales, with Lucas, Andre Wisdom and possibly even recent signing Lazar Markovic potentially available at the right price,” Maddock continues.

Of course, Wisdom did just sign a new long-term contract, so this claim is rather dubious.

The sales of Borini and Balotelli in particular are set to fund further moves in the market, accompanied by the wages recouped by the departures of Glen Johnson and Steven Gerrard.

Maddock suggests that Rodgers is after “star signings” at right-back, attacking midfield and centre-forward.

Nathaniel Clyne, Roberto Firmino and Carlos Bacca?

As ever, pre-season could be an important phase for Liverpool this summer, with many new names looking to gel with Rodgers’ tactical dynamic.
