Divock Origi excited by arrival of Christian Benteke at Liverpool

Despite now facing more competition for a place in the starting XI, Divock Origi says the arrival of Christian Benteke at Liverpool is a “wonderful signing”.

Benteke completed his £32.5 million move to Anfield from Aston Villa this week, becoming the second most expensive singing in Liverpool’s history.

He becomes the third Belgian international at the club after Simon Mignolet and Origi, and the latter is excited at the prospect of linking up with his fellow countryman at club level.

“[He’s] a wonderful signing, I think,” Origi told the club’s official website.

“I know him from the Belgian national team, he has a lot of ability, a lot of qualities.

“I’m happy for him and also for us that he’s part of the team.

“I’m always happy to play with good players, especially Christian.

“I think everybody knows his strengths. He’s very strong, very big, good in the air, he has good feet, he can score.

“He’s the modern striker and it’s a very good signing.”

Liverpool’s attacking threat is shaping up nicely with the summer arrivals of Benteke, Origi and Danny Ings complimenting Daniel Sturridge.

Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini are all expected to find new clubs by the end of the summer transfer window.

The Reds take on a Malaysian XI on Friday as part of their pre-season tour, and Origi believes preparations for the new campaign have been going well.

“I think the team have played a lot of good games,” he added.

“I’m happy that we are all here, we can learn, we can progress, we can work on tactics and prepare for the new season.

“It’s been nice to see the players, to be able to play with them, to have the feeling of what it is to be a player with Liverpool.

“I’m feeling better and better and playing better and better so I’m happy.”
