Liverpool’s “world class” talent excites Adam Lallana

Adam Lallana says he is looking forward to continuing Liverpool’s pre-season preparations by integrating with the players who didn’t travel on the Asia and Australia tour.

Following Friday’s 1-1 draw against a Malaysia XI, Liverpool have returned to Merseyside with the new Premier League season now just two weeks ago.

Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho returned to training at Melwood this week after being granted extended leave due to their participation in the Under-21 European Championships and the Copa America respectively earlier this summer.

New signing Roberto Firmino also began training following his involvement in the Copa America, whilst Christian Benteke joined them later in the week after the completion of his £32.5 million move from Aston Villa.

“That’s three world class attacking players to go on top of what we’ve already got,” Lallana told the Liverpool Echo.

“Then there’s also Emre Can, who is another massive player for us.

“These are really exciting times. They probably won’t be up to speed yet fitness wise but they will be great additions to the squad.

“Benteke’s a big presence and he’s going to be a massive signing for us.

“He scores all kinds of goals. He can score them out of nothing and he’s dangerous in the air.

“From set-pieces, both for and against, he will be important. He’s one of those players you want to have in your side.”

Liverpool enjoyed a successful tour of Asia and Australia with victories over True Thai All Stars, Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United before Friday’s draw in Kuala Lumpur.

There’s now a week of rest and training at Melwood before next Saturday’s game against HJK Helsinki in Finland (1 August, 17:30) and their final friendly of the summer at Swindon Town (2 August, 16:00) the following day.
