While pre-season is a chance to boost fitness and prepare with the testing campaign ahead, the Liverpool squad have partaken in some morale-boosting exercises while on tour in the Far East and Australia, too.

Stopping in Adelaide for Monday’s 2-0 victory over Adelaide United at the Oval—home of Australian Test cricket—James Milner, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne took a batting break.

Joined by the West End Redbacks’ Kane Richardson, the Reds trio put their cricket skills to the test.

Milner, who played for the Yorkshire Schools cricket team as a youngster, was predicted to be the best by Lallana.

But the former Southampton man proved himself to be a handy player.

The less said about Clyne’s batting ability the better.

Milner and Clyne look to have integrated well into the group over the summer so far, and their performances throughout the Reds’ tour should give supporters a lot to look forward to in 2015/16.

Manager Brendan Rodgers described Milner as a “top-class professional” after his goalscoring display in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar.

“He’s going to be huge for us and working close at hand with him I can see why he’s regarded as a top-class professional,” he said.

Milner has been one of the stars of pre-season so far, and has been tipped to take over as Liverpool’s vice-captain, following Jordan Henderson‘s promotion to the captain’s role.
