Steven Gerrard was unveiled as an LA Galaxy player on Saturday night, and thanks supporters for their warm welcome after moving from Liverpool to Los Angeles this summer.

The former Liverpool captain joined the MLS outfit on a free transfer after 17 years on Merseyside.

Introduced at half-time during Galaxy’s 4-0 home win over Toronto FC at the StubHub Centre, Gerrard made a short speech to kick off his Galaxy career.

“Thank you very much for a fantastic welcome,” the 35-year-old said.

“Thank you for making myself and my family feel at home in LA.

“It feels great to be here, I’m excited and I can’t wait to get my boots on and play.

“And hopefully we can have some good times together. Happy 4th of July.”

Punctuated with enormous cheers from the Galaxy crowd, Gerrard—who will wear the No. 8 shirt—is clearly a popular man in Los Angeles.

He will have endeared himself further by providing 500 bottles of beer before the game to thank supporters for their welcome and to celebrate Independence Day.
