The Reds’ recent European record means their Uefa coefficient puts them below 12 teams in this season’s Europa League – having dropped to 55th overall in Europe earlier this month.

Brendan Rodgers’ side won just two games in Europe last season – against Ludogorets and Besiktas at Anfield, the latter who knocked them out over two legs. That despite a favourable group stage draw on the club’s return to the Champions League for the first time in five years.

In Rodgers’ first season in charge, the Reds fared just as poorly, knocked out by Zenit St. Petersburg at the first knockout stage.

All that means that Liverpool can be drawn against one of these top seeds when the draw takes place in Monaco at 12 noon BST on Friday:

  • Schalke
  • Borussia Dortmund
  • Basel
  • Napoli
  • Tottenham (can’t be drawn against LFC as from same country)
  • Ajax
  • Villareal
  • Rubin Kazan
  • Athletic Bilbao
  • Sporting Lisbon
  • Marseille
  • Dnipro
