Jurgen Klopp‘s injury crisis deepened on Tuesday, as it was confirmed that Benteke would miss Liverpool’s Wednesday night clash with Bournemouth through injury.

The 24-year-old suffered a knock to his knee during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Southampton, with reports suggesting this could also see him miss out on the Reds’ trip to take on Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

Benteke was sent to hospital for a scan on Monday after reporting a problem in the aftermath of Sunday’s match. It’s reported that he has tweaked ligaments.

“His participation in Saturday’s showdown with Chelsea will also now be in doubt and the situation represents another blow for new manager Klopp, who is now left with youngster Divock Origi as his only fit recognised forward,” reports the Express‘ Paul Joyce.

With both Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings already on Klopp’s injury list, 20-year-old Belgian striker Origi is likely to start once again up front against the Cherries.

Jerome Sinclair is Liverpool’s second choice for the role with Benteke, Sturridge and Ings out.

Klopp will be buoyed by the return to full fitness of Roberto Firmino however, with the Brazilian set to make his first start under the German at Anfield.

The 48-year-old has endured a torrid start to life on Merseyside, with Jordan Henderson, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez also on the sidelines.

Long-term absentee Jon Flanagan is yet to return to full training, while Jose Enrique misses out on Wednesday night with a minor injury.

James Milner is suspended for Wednesday’s match, meaning Joao Carlos Teixeira is expected to make his full debut for the club.
