Norwich City 4-5 Liverpool

Premier League – Carrow Road – Saturday 23rd January 2016

Goals: Firmino 18′, 63′, Henderson 55′, Milner 75′, Lallana 90+4′; Mbokani 29′, Naismith 41′, Hoolahan 54′ (pen), Bassong 90+3′

Adding to a long line of incredible scorelines between Liverpool and Norwich, a late Adam Lallana strike sealed an breathtaking victory for the Reds.

Roberto Firmino scored twice, while both Jordan Henderson and James Milner added to their tallies for the season.

But defensive errors undermined Liverpool’s attacking brilliance, seeing goals from Norwich‘s Dieumerci Mbokani, Steven Naismith, Wes Hoolahan and Sebastian Bassong.

With the clock running down, Lallana found himself in the perfect position to fire home the winner, sparking the travelling Kop into life and sealing a 5-4 win for the Reds.

Here’s how supporters reacted to Saturday’s nine-goal thriller at Carrow Road.

Starting slowly, with Norwich enjoying the majority of possession in dangerous areas, Liverpool looked to be suffering from a hangover from Wednesday night’s FA Cup action.

Against the run of play however, starting centre-forward Firmino benefited from an excellent pass from Milner to bundled the ball past Declan Rudd to put the Reds 1-0 up.

It wasn’t long before Norwich pegged Liverpool back, with Mbokani sending a powerful backheeled effort through Simon Mignolet, provoking a familiar reaction from supporters.

This misery was compounded as an emphatic Naismith run saw the ex-Everton midfielder put Norwich 2-1 ahead, with Mignolet, Henderson and Lucas Leiva all culpable.

This saw supporters head into half-time with a feeling of apathy.

Hoolahan piled on the disappointment, benefiting from a poor Alberto Moreno challenge to fire a penalty kick into the Liverpool net, giving Norwich a two-goal lead.

This didn’t last for long however, with Liverpool desperate to secure a result, and Henderson grabbed one back minutes later with a first-time volley.

Firmino then levelled the scores by prodding home following a perfectly weighted cross from Lallana.

Norwich gifted Milner with a goal shortly after, with Russell Martin’s shocking backpass giving the vice-captain the opportunity to slot the ball beyond Rudd.

A powerful finish from Norwich centre-back Bassong look set to consign the Reds to a disappointing draw…

…but Lallana’s strike soon followed, with Klopp’s passionate celebration, joining his side on the touchline, captured the overwhelming joy of the Liverpool support.

It was a wholly unexpected outcome to an early afternoon outing at Carrow Road, but Klopp’s joy underlines the significance of this result.

Liverpool will now take on Stoke City in Tuesday night’s League Cup semi-final second leg with a renewed sense of optimism.
