Simon Mignolet unfazed by Liverpool’s busy League Cup Final week

Simon Mignolet believes Liverpool's experience of a busy fixture schedule this season means they will have no problem coping with a crucial Europa League tie and a Wembley final in the same week.

The goalless draw in Augsburg was their 42nd match of the campaign and 15th in the last 51 days.

It presents Jurgen Klopp with a number of questions ahead of the return leg on Thursday as they face Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final three days later.

The German has already hinted he will make changes at Anfield, although not to the extent he did in the FA Cup when he fielded many of the club's youngsters, but the main difference is the Reds' exit from that competition means they have a full week to recover and prepare.

"We are professional footballers and you just have to take every game as it comes and the next game is always the most important," said goalkeeper Mignolet.

"It is a cliche but it is as true as it can be. There is no point in looking forward to the League Cup final.

"With all the games we have been playing we are used to two games in a week.

"We have seven days to recover – which is a change from what we have done recently.

"We have to get on with it, look at the things we can do better and then I am sure we can do the business at Anfield when we get the fans behind us."

Home has not been a happy hunting ground for the Reds generally this season with just four league wins at Anfield.

The crowd are quick to pass on their anxieties to the players and vice-versa but Mignolet is confident the advantage remains with them.

"A European night at Anfield, the fans will be behind us and you can always do a bit more when that comes along," added the Belgium international.

"Every 90 minutes is different. On a European night with everything which has happened in the past I am sure the fans will be up for it pushing us forward and it is up to us to try to get through.

"There are many good teams playing in the Europa League and we have to show we are willing to go to the next round.

"We have to learn from the first leg. We have played them now and know what it is about."

The absence of goals was surprising considering Klopp named the same side – for the first time since he took over in mid-October – which demolished Aston Villa 6-0.

Augsburg are struggling in the Bundesliga, just a point above the relegation zone, but they proved more doughty opponents, although had Daniel Sturridge not fluffed his shot six yards out the outcome could – and probably should – have been different.

"We scored six last week but that is just how football goes," said Mignolet.

"Sometimes you have to save a few in the previous game to score one in the next game!

"You have to have a bit of luck – first half they probably could have scored and they hit the post late on as well so you have to see it balance out.

"Every German team is tough to beat and technically up to date and they make it difficult to play.

"It is a different kind of play to what you have in England and you have to adapt to that.

"In England it is a bit more pressing while here they play a bit more tactically and then it is not easy to adapt to that.

"They make two lines of four and it is difficult to break that down.

"We were not aggressive enough in the first half to break that down but second half we were better.

"If you look back to it a 0-0 draw was probably the right result."
