Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was joined by midfielder Emre Can for the pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday’s Europa League tie against FC Augbsurg – with both Germans speaking in their native language.

The two Germans answered questions from a packed media room in Augsburg’s WWK Arena, with Klopp having spoken separately to British journalists before flying to Bavaria on Wednesday.

Klopp explained how he feels that the Europa League is the best opportunity for his side to get into next season’s Champions League – with the Reds nine points behind fourth-placed Man City, and indeed contributing to the unpredictability of the Premier League season.

Klopp is without defender Dejan Lovren and midfielder Adam Lallana for the game, but Lucas Leiva is back available.

The boss is expected to make just one change to the side that beat Aston Villa 6-0 on Sunday, that being Steven Caulker replacing Kolo Toure in defence.

Taking a first-leg advantage back to Merseyside has added importance with next week’s return leg arriving just three days before the League Cup Final at Wembley. A decent win tonight would mean some players can have 10 days to rest before the clash against City.

Tonight’s game is live on BT Sport Europe in England.
