5 Liverpool players called up to England squad

Roy Hodgson has announced his latest England squad, with five Liverpool players chosen to represent their country.

One of those frustrating international breaks is almost upon us, having had a lovely spell without one so far this year.

England continue their preparations for Euro 2016 with friendlies away to Germany and at home to Holland later this month, and Liverpool players feature prominently in Hodgson’s 24-man squad.

Nathaniel Clyne, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge have all been selected, as they hope to impress ahead of the France-hosted tournament.

Clyne has been one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers throughout 2015/16, if not their most, and looks set to battle Tottenham‘s Kyle Walker for the starting right-back slot for the Three Lions.

Henderson and Milner have both come in for criticism from some fans this season, following some below-par showings, but both have been key players for Hodgson throughout his tenure.

Lallana is another mainstay of the national squad, and his superb form of late has put the 27-year-old right in contention to be a key figure in the two upcoming friendlies.

Sturridge finally returns to the international fold, having not played for England since 2014, and he will be desperate to prove himself.

The 26-year-old has understandably been a little off the pace since returning from long-term injury, but when fit, he is the best striker England have.

The five Reds will join up with the England squad after Sunday’s league match at Southampton.

For Liverpool fans, it would be nice to just see the quintet come through the games unscathed, but for the players themselves, they know they must shine to enhance their hopes of starting in the summer.
