Midfielder Adam Lallana joined Jurgen Klopp for the pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday’s Europa League tie against Man United at Anfield.
“We want to finish the season strong and this competition’s a good chance for us to win a trophy,” said the in-form Englishman.
“We’ve picked up a good bit of consistency in the league and we feel we could finish the season with something special.”
Liverpool have the lost the last four meetings against their north-west rivals, and Lallana says that’s something he and the squad want to put right.
“Since I’ve been here I’ve not won a game against United so it’s a great challenge to put that right.
“It’s got the makings of a special tie.”
The former Southampton man was asked about the influence of local players on occasions like this, saying: “You don’t have to be local to realise the significance of the match.”
