Loris Karius arrives in Liverpool ahead of £4.7 million move

Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius is in Liverpool to undergo a medical, as his move to Anfield nears its conclusion.

The 22-year-old looks set to become Jurgen Klopp‘s first signing of the summer, joining January purchases Joel Matip and Marko Grujic in the process.

Karius arrived on Merseyside on Monday morning, and his medical will take place later on in the day.

The German is expected to challenge Simon Mignolet as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper next season, and is highly-rated in his homeland.

Karuis is arrival is part of a goalkeeping overhaul this summer; Adam Bogdan will be sold, following a disappointing first season with the club, while Danny Ward is expected to join Huddersfield Town on a season-long loan.

Karius will cost £4.7 million and will hopefully be the first of many new faces to arrive in the next few weeks.

News of Karius’ medical was reported by the reliable Paul Joyce of the Express, who also writes that the German ‘keeper shares the same agent as Mario Gotze.

Gotze is still being tipped to join up with former manager Klopp, although Borussia Dortmund are also interested in bringing the Germany international back to the club next summer.

Karius enjoyed a good season for Mainz, with his eye-catching distribution and outstanding shot-stopping ability both impressing greatly.

He would represent an exciting long-term investment, and someone with the talent to become one of the best ‘keepers in the Premier League.

Liverpool hope to announce the deal on Wednesday.
