Thursday’s Liverpool Transfer News Roundup: Mor, Mario, Toure, Coutinho

A beautiful sunny day on Merseyside, where the rumour mill keeps on turning out the Liverpool transfer news.

Thankfully, there’s some actual football to start to distract us from the transfer talk, with the Copa America Centenario (that’s centenary to you or me) starting over in the States this weekend. You can read a pretty comprehensive preview for that here.

Elsewhere, England play their final warmup fixture before the Euros against Portugal tonight. Roy will no doubt overplay Sturridge after his injury last week, in order to “test his resolve” ahead of the tournament itself.

Apparently the kids on Twitter are getting a bit tetchy that we’ve not signed anyone this week, maybe they need to get outside on half-term.

Meanwhile, Jurgen’s enjoying his holidays safe in the knowledge that he’s already signed a keeper, a centre-back and a midfielder…

Where else is the boss targeting? Here’s today’s round up for you:

Reds want Mor Emre

Liverpool are “leading the race” for Turkey and FC Nordsjaelland youngster Emre Mor, according to ESPN FC.

The versatile attacker was linked with a move to Merseyside last November and has seemingly remained on the Reds’ radar since then.

Man United, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax are also said to be interested in the 18-year-old, who was named in Turkey’s Euro 2016 squad and made his debut for the national side last week.

Coach Kolo

Kolo Toure’s contract expires this summer and the 35-year-old had been widely expected to leave the club.

However, the reliable Melissa Reddy of the formerly unreliable Goal notes today that Toure could remain at the club in a non-playing role.

Klopp has often spoke of Kolo’s influence around Melwood on a daily basis and while his performances in the latter half of the campaign were impressive, it became increasingly obvious who struggled to complete 90 minutes of full action.

Toure would be an asset to keep at the club and such a move would be welcome by most.

Reds want Mario, not that Mario

Sporting Lisbon attacking midfielder Joao Mario is seemingly an alternative option for the Reds after apparently missing out on Mario Gotze this summer.

Reports in Portugal today link the 23-year-old with a move to Merseyside. He had seven goals and 12 assists last season and could offer an option on the flanks.

Man United and Chelsea are also linked and the player shares the same agent as Jose Mourinho, so a move to Old Trafford looks more likely.

Now for the bad news

Reports in France today claim PSG will move for Philippe Coutinho this summer, as an alternative to Eden Hazard it seems.

Coutinho, 23, was named the Reds’ player of the year for a second successive season after an inconsistent campaign that was highlighted by some stunning goals.

Losing another key player would be a huge blow this summer.

Reina’s dad says no return

Pepe Reina’s dad says talk a return to Liverpool is just rumours, telling media: “There is nothing, just rumours.

“The great affection that Pepe has for the Napoli is known.”

The Rest…

  • Liverpool-linked Reece Oxford is set to sign a long-term contract with West Ham in the coming days, according to the Daily Express.
  • Man City signed Ilkay Gundogan for £21m.
