Liverpool drawn to play Derby County in League Cup third round

Liverpool have been to play away to Derby County in the third round of the League Cup.

The Reds qualified for the third round with second round victory at Burton Albion on Tuesday night, cruising through to the next stage with a 5-0 victory against the Championship side.

Liverpool and Derby last faced each other in the 2007/08 season before the Rams were relegated from the Premier League; Liverpool won 6-0 at Anfield and 2-1 at Pride Park – thanks to goals from Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard.

Derby are managed by former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson, who was appointed this summer, and have former Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson and former academy winger Tom Ince among their ranks.

They qualified for the third round with an incredible 14-13 penalty shootout victory against Carlisle United on Tuesday, after a 1-1 draw.

The tie will be played on September 20th or 21st. Liverpool play at Chelsea the Friday before, and host Hull City the Saturday after.
