Liverpool to host Tottenham Hotspur in League Cup 4th Round

Liverpool have been drawn at home against Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the League Cup, to be played on October 25 or 26.

The Reds sealed progress to the fourth round by virtue of a 3-0 victory over Derby County on Tuesday night, with goals from Ragnar Klavan, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi.

In the hat with a number of strong Premier League sides including Arsenal and Chelsea, Jurgen Klopp‘s side are set to take on Spurs.

To be held on either October 25 or 26, the Reds will host Mauricio Pochettino’s side as they look to progress to the quarter-finals.

Liverpool have already played Spurs this season, held to a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane in August.

The two sides’ last meeting in the League Cup came in 2008, when Rafa Benitez’s Reds lost 4-2 at White Hart Lane, with braces from Roman Pavlyuchenko and Fraizer Campbell consigning the Reds to defeat in the tournament’s fourth round.

Klopp has taken a positive approach to the tournament over the past two seasons, reaching the final in 2015/16 and fielding a strong lineup in both of the Reds’ outings so far this term.

Away to Burton Albion in the second round, Origi, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge all scored in a 5-0 victory, while Coutinho was instrumental in Tuesday night’s triumph at Pride Park.

Liverpool have won the League Cup on eight occasions, the most of any team in England, and a ninth could mark the start of a successful era under Klopp.

“This is a very important tournament for us, for the players,” Klopp told reporters after Tuesday’s victory, “and we have to show it from the first second. Let’s go for it.”

The tie will take place after a home clash with West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League (October 22) and will be followed by a trip to take on Crystal Palace (October 29).
