Henderson and Sturridge ruled out, Firmino a doubt vs. Burnley

Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the fitness of a key quartet, as he prepares his Liverpool side to take on Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

The Clarets take to Anfield for a key clash to round off the Premier League weekend, with Klopp’s side eager to pick up another vital victory.

After taking three points from last weekend’s top-four showdown at home to Arsenal, Sunday provides another big opportunity for Liverpool.

They are currently fourth in the table, four points behind both third-placed Man City and second-placed Tottenham, with a win over Sean Dyche’s side crucial.

Klopp may be without four of his star players, however, as he told reporters at Melwood on Friday afternoon.

Both Jordan Henderson (foot) and Daniel Sturridge (calf) have been absent of late, while Roberto Firmino is also now a doubt for the weekend.

“No, not available,” Klopp said of Henderson and Sturridge.

“Unfortunately Roberto Firmino [is struggling], he felt something after the game.

“He couldn’t train this week, we need to wait a little bit more then we will see.”

Meanwhile, it is still unclear whether Dejan Lovren (knee) will come back into the fold, despite returning to training and taking his place on the bench against Arsenal.

Ragnar Klavan shone in Lovren’s stead, and Klopp suggested he could opt to reward the Estonian with a continued berth alongside Joel Matip—eschewing his first-choice pairing.

“Ragnar had wonderful games for us, especially the last one. No decision has been made to start the game,” Klopp explained.

“Joel struggled [with injury], Ragnar was ill, Lovren out a long time and now back in training—we will see.

“Consistency in the lineup is good, the longer you can play together the better for the team, the things you learn about each other, without thinking about it.

“‘If he steps out I have to protect this situation’, for the centre-back pairing, that’s pretty important.

“We had the situation, we made the best of it and now in this moment they’re all fit.

“Now I have the choice and I will use this opportunity.”

Adam Bogdan (ACL), Ovie Ejaria (ankle) and Danny Ings (knee) are also sidelined, with Henderson, Sturridge and Firmino joining the trio in the treatment room.
