Steven Gerrard was among the goals as the Liverpool Legends produced a 4-3 victory at home to Real Madrid Legends on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds legends took to Anfield for the first time since the redevelopment of the Main Stand, performing in front of a packed crowd against their Spanish counterparts.

Player-manager Ian Rush called upon a star-studded side including the likes of Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Dietmar Hamann, Steve McManaman, Robbie Fowler and Luis Garcia.

And with the Anfield support roaring them on the legendary Liverpool side dominated for much of the afternoon.

Michael Owen got the Reds in front after 24 minutes, heading home following a great cross from Gerrard.

Going into half-time 1-0 up, Rush made a host of changes to his side, including the introduction of a 58-year-old John Aldridge, who tapped home after a cross-goal pass from the Reds’ No. 8.

And with Gerrard fouled in the box by an onrushing Jerzy Dudek, captain for the day Fowler stepped up to give the home side a three-goal lead.

Not content with his trio of assists, Gerrard scored Liverpool’s last goal of the afternoon—and it was by far their best, with a great touch and finish inside the area from the midfielder.

Real did fight back late on, noticeably after the departure of Daniel Agger, with Edwin Congo netting first.

Former Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes got in on the action less than a minute later, firing home an Anfield collector’s item from close range.

And Ruben de la Red, who was forced to retire in 2010 at the age of 25, rounded off the scoring with a late header.

After the game, Gerrard, who was named Man of the Match, dedicated his side’s display to the memory of the late, great Mr Liverpool, Ronnie Moran.
