Jurgen Klopp led his Liverpool side through preparations at Melwood on Tuesday afternoon, ahead of their Champions League opener against Sevilla.

The Reds take on the Spanish outfit at Anfield on Wednesday night, as they make their first appearance in Europe’s top-tier tournament since 2014.

After a 6-3 aggregate victory over Hoffenheim in their play-off qualifier, Liverpool will head into the Champions League confident of improving on their showing from three years ago.

Up first are their opponents from the Europa League final in 2016, with Klopp plotting victory over Eduardo Berizzo’s Sevilla.

The German will be able to call upon Philippe Coutinho for the first time this season, with the Brazilian all smiles despite his failed move to Barcelona this summer.

Klopp may be without Mohamed Salah, however, as the winger missed out on Tuesday, which could prompt an immediate return to the starting lineup for Liverpool’s No. 10.

Daniel Sturridge will be another option at Anfield—and if the striker does feature, it would be his first outing for the Reds in the Champions League.

Peripheral figures such as Ovie Ejaria, Marko Grujic, Danny Ings and Lazar Markovic all took part in training, but Ben Woodburn was absent.

The Wales international has been named in Steven Gerrard‘s U19s squad for the UEFA Youth League, with the young Reds taking on their Sevilla counterparts at Prenton Park on Wednesday evening.
