Liverpool midfielder Allan to spend pre-season on trial with German club

Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Allan is heading to the USA on a pre-season tour, but with German club Eintracht Frankfurt rather than the Reds.

While the Reds are heading Stateside for the International Champions Cup against Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Manchester United, Allan Rodrigues de Souza won’t be with them.

Instead, he’s headed to Salt Lake City with the Bundesliga side, hoping to play in two fixtures while on trial.

The German club confirmed that Allan is travelling with them for the pre-season tour, though also say it is not yet agreed whether or not he is allowed to play in their two matches.

Since joining the Reds in 2015, he has yet to feature for the club due to work permit regulations.

Instead a succession of loan spells have ensued, with Allan joining Finnish club SJK, Belgian outfit Sint-Truiden, German side Hertha Berlin and, last year, Apollon Limassol, a Cypriot side.

That latest move was cut short due to needing a shoulder operation, however, from which he has now recovered.

A creative midfielder who can operate in a deeper role or as a more scheming, adventurous player, he was denied a work permit to play in England in the summer of 2016 and has not had a look-in since.

With the Reds’ centre of the park being strengthened by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain last year, and both Fabinho and Naby Keita this term, future chances of breaking through would also be at a premium.

There’s no guarantee of him securing a move to Frankfurt at this stage, but an impressive trial might well up the interest in him, be it for a loan or permanent move.
