Former Liverpool greats & Jurgen Klopp included as James Milner announces squad for charity match at Celtic

Jurgen Klopp will manage James Milner‘s Liverpool team in a charity match at Celtic in September, it has been confirmed.

The vice-captain has arranged the fixture at Celtic Park along with former team-mate Stiliyan Petrov, for ‘A Match for Cancer.’

As is to be expected, there are several former Reds in the squad, along with players Milner has encountered throughout his career.

Dutch icon Dirk Kuyt is one of those, along with Jamie Redknapp and Emile Heskey.

Most interestingly, Klopp has accepted the job of being manager for the day—while former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will be in charge of Petrov’s Celtic team.

Milner’s squad: Chris Kirkland, Stephen Warnock, John Arne Riise, Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards, Jason McAteer, Jamie Redknapp, Jimmy Bullard, Emile Heskey, Owen Hargreaves, Dirk Kuyt, Peter Crouch, Alan Smith and Neil Mellor.

Meanwhile, Petrov’s group will include current Celtic captain Scott Brown, while a host of world stars and former Celtic names are also set to feature.

Petrov’s squad: Shay Given, Artur Boruc, Henrik Larsson, Lubo Moravcik, Paddy McCourt, John Hartson, Joos Valgaeren, Johan Mjallby, Robbie Keane, Tosh McKinlay, Jackie McNamara, Simon Donnelly, Gareth Barry, Hristo Stoichkov, Luis Garcia, Gaizka Mendieta, Maxwell and Martin Compston.

For both teams, a collection of non-professionals are also likely to take part, including The F2, and further names will be confirmed in due course.

The match takes place on Saturday, September 8 and tickets are on sale via the Celtic website.
