Fernando Torres limped out of Spain’s 1-0 win over France after just 23 minutes with what appears to be a hamstring injury and if so makes him a huge doubt for Sunday’s clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Dutchman Ryan Babel also limped out of Holland’s 3-0 win over Croatia, he was substituted after 55 minutes but appears to only have a minor knock.
Meanwhile, in Fabio Capello’s first game in charge of England – the Italian went all Sven and showed he failed to watch the World Cup and played Rooney up front on his own, with Stevie Gerrard captaining the side in a 5 man midfield. Peter Crouch was given the Benitez treatment by Capello – left on the bench when he was needed on the pitch, then made an impact when he did come on. Shaun Wright Phillip’s scored the winner 5 minutes after Crouch’s arrival. Jermaine Jenas had opened the scoring before the Swiss equalised.
Elsewhere, John Arne Riise was part of the Norway side which was thrashed 3-0 by Wales.
