Gary Mac returns to Anfield

Gary McAllister will don the Liverpool shirt once again tonight when he lines up in a Liverpool legends team against a team of celebrities in the Hillsborough Memorial Game at Anfield.

Gerard Houllier signed the Scottish midfielder in 2000 and he played a vital role in guiding the Reds to a Cup treble in 2001.

Now, at the age of 44, Macca is back and raring to play in front of the Kop again in aid of the Marina Dalglish appeal.

Ahead of tonight’s charity game, he said, “I can’t believe that seven years have passed since I last played for Liverpool,” said McAllister.

“The fans treated me was special, really special. But then it always was and I feel really fortunate to have had such a special relationship with them.

“I have been back to Anfield quite a few times since then and the atmosphere has been magnificent so to get the chance to pull my boots on again and get out there and play in front of those wonderful fans once again is something I really appreciate.

“When you see the names of some of the players who will be involved that just makes it even more special.”

Tickets for tonight’s game are still on sale and kick-off is 7.45pm. The guest of honour tonight is Reds skipper and Football Writers’ Player of the Year, Steven Gerrard.
