Staff re-structuring continues as kitman gets the sack!

Following the recent high profile departures of reserve team manager Gary Ablett and academy director Piet Hamberg, along with youth team coaches Hughie McAuley and Dave Shannon, Liverpool have sacked their reserve team’s kitman!

John Wright, father of former full-back Stephen Wright, has been at the club since 2000, taking on his role as reserve team kit manager in 2004.

Also leaving is Spanish physio Victor Salinas whose contract expires this summer. Salinas joined the club in 2005.

It is also reported the club’s player liason officer, Norman Gard, has been dismissed. The player liason officer is responsible for setting up new players with their house, car, schools for children, bank accounts and other logistics. In a recent interview Sami Hyypia said;

“I remember when I first arrived, (Liverpool player liaison officer) Norman came to pick me up at the airport and we were just talking about football and the club.

“He told me to just concentrate on the football, that I was only here to play football and I did not need to worry about anything else because the club would help me with everything away from the pitch to make it as easy as possible for me.

“They have certainly done that. The club has taken care of the players, at least they have done in my experience anyway.”

Liverpool are currently undergoing a massive re-structuring of the club off the pitch, with Frank McParland returning as the new academy director and Jose Segura arriving as Academy technical manager.

It is widely speculated former players Kenny Dalglish and Gary McAllister will be appointed in new roles as part of the review of the club’s staff.
