Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has revealed that he considered ending his football career due to the sheer pain of his recent back injury.

The Danish centre-back, who hasn’t played a game this season, has now recovered from back surgery and could return action for the Reds when the Premier League resumes on October 17th.

But Agger says he so nearly called early retirement from the game.

Speaking to Danish broadsheet newspaper, Jyllandsposten, Agger said, “My back was hurting so badly that I considered stopping playing.

“I asked myself if it was worth continuing playing. When you can’t even lift your own child out of bed, then something is terribly wrong.”
