Rafa: Reds need investment

Amid speculation in the last 24 hours that the seventh richest man in the world, Mukesh Ambani, was interested in investing in Liverpool FC, manager Rafa Benitez has admitted he is waiting for the investment Tom Hicks and George Gillett have promised.

A spokesman for Ambani denied any interest in the Anfield club, saying “There is no truth to the report. We deny it completely.”

Speaking ahead of the crucial clash with Arsenal on Wednesday, Rafa Benitez said “We can see a lot of rumours in the press but we have to concentrate on football.”

“Everyone knows we need a new stadium and investors if we want to go forward so it would be good for the club.”

“Over the last two years everyone is talking about new investors and the new stadium and so all the fans are waiting for this good news and me too.

Benitez signed a new five-year contract with the club last year, he says that was partly due to promises co-owners Hicks and Gillett made to him, “I’ll be really pleased if we can bring people who can help to bring the new stadium closer. If I signed a new contract last year it was because they (Hicks and Gillett) told me they would be going forward.”

“I am waiting for a while. The only thing I can do now is just concentrate on football and do our best on the pitch.”

Managing director Christian Purslow recently told how the club are working on a £100m investment in order to reduce the debt at the club, which currently stands at £243m.
