TIA’s inaugural Fan Derby with Nil Satis Nisi Optimum ended in tears for the Reds after a hard fought 7-3 loss Saturday morning. To celebrate the start of the new season, fans representing Liverpool and Everton met for the 10:30am kick-off, raising money for the Hillsborough Justice Campaign and Everton Former Players Foundation.
On a cold and wet Liverpool morning, Mitch of NSNO got the scoring underway with a header into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 NSNO with less than 10 minutes on the clock.
The Everton lead was doubled soon after that with another good bit of work down the right wing from NSNO, this time it was Shieldsy who was there to put the ball in the back of the net.
After two quick goals, the game settled down and the Reds were able to get into a regular rhythm and could have gone into the interval with the scoreline closer but for some outstanding saves from NSNO keeper Tom.

The second half was a more open affair with both teams tiring as the game went on. It was TIA who came out the stronger side looking to make amends for a disappointing first half. And indeed the Reds got their rewards with a goal back shortly after the restart - a stunning strike from well outside the area. From the moment it left David’s boot, the shot had goal written all over it and flew into the top corner of the net; evading the desparing dive of the NSNO keeper Tom.
However the euphoria was not to last long - NSNO regained their two goal lead almost straight away. A throw in into the box led to a bit of a scramble, which NSNO’s Shieldsy managed to score his second of the game with a sharp turn and shot into the corner. The 4th goal came after yet some good work on the right wing for the Toffees, the cross evading everyone and fell to NSNO captain Rhys to bang in from 12 yards.

The 5th goal from the Blues was a truly sublime goal that left everyone on and off the pitch applauding. A fine move from midfield, with some neat one touch football, led the ball being played infield to the edge of the box for Rhys to produce a flick that Ronaldinho would have been proud of to split the defence and give Mitch the chance to score his second, which he did with a good finish into the bottom corner.
This is Anfield briefly came back into the match with a couple of goals to make it 5-3 sensing they needed to regain some pride. TIA’s own Joey Jones did well to control the ball and then hit it low to NSNO’s keeper’s left to bring the scoreline to 5-2. Several minutes later, David hit again, this time picking the ball up on the edge of the area after a set piece and rifleing it to the keeper’s left again to pull the Reds within two.

At this point, TIA felt a comeback of Istanbulic proportions coming on, and pushed players further and further back - unfortunately exposing large areas in the rear.
NSNO’s Shieldsy grabbed his hat trick from the penalty spot after a handball in the box; despite the best efforts of the TIA keeper. NSNO grabbed a seventh in the dying moments, rounding off an admittedly well deserved win from the boys in blue.
While the Everton fans claim to have won, the real winner today was charity - almost £300 was raised between the Hillsborough Justice Club and the Everton Former Players Foundation.
