Sunday April 15th 2007 marks the 18th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster where 96 innocent Liverpool supporters were crushed in one of sport’s greatest ever tragedies.
The anniversary each year is marked by a memorial service at Anfield, with all players and staff joining families of those who lost their loved ones during the FA Cup semi final against Nottingham Forest in Sheffield 18 years ago.
Sunday’s service included a reading from vice captain Jamie Carragher, former chairman David Moores and manager at the time of the disaster, Kenny Dalglish.
The Hillsborough Family Support Group chairman told liverpoolfc.tv “We light a candle to remember each individual life that was extinguished prematurely and we rely upon the eternal flame of the Hillsborough Memorial to burn some light into the darkest night.”
