The sixth weekend of the 08/09 Premier League campaign ends with Chelsea and Liverpool joint top of the pile and the only remaining unbeaten sides.

Some things never change in football though; Newcastle remain the laughing stock of the country; Arsenal continue to show why they they won’t be winning the league any time soon; and Rob Styles continues to be the worst referee known to man.

Bolton battled away at Old Trafford but it was all in vain because Mr Styles decided that Saturday would be a good day to implement a new rule - the ‘It doesn’t matter if you get the ball, if it’s Ronaldo and at Old Trafford it’s a penalty’ rule. Mind, this is the same clown who awarded Chelsea their penalty at Anfield last season.

Styles and Mike Riley seem to have their own little competition running at the moment, both vying for the coveted ‘Muppet of the Year’ award. Both are doing a great job of it too.

Saturday, of course, kicked off with the Reds’ 2-0 win at Goodison Park, and ended with Wenger’s men (not his boys this time) succombing to the might of Hull City down at the Emirates. Phil Brown’s Tigers are proving all the critics wrong having already won as many points as Derby did all last season and unbeaten away from home.

Another of the promoted teams, West Brom, aren’t doing too bad either. They came away from Middlesbrough not only pleased to have left Britain’s shittest town behind but also with three points in the bag. Boing, boing!

In fact, the only promoted team who look to have a long season ahead them is Stoke (yes, the same Stoke who held us to a 0-0 draw). Boring, bullying tactics might get you the odd result (yes, a 0-0 draw at Anfield) but it won’t work all season and Chelsea put 2 past the one (or is it non?) dimensional Potters.

Mind you, Stoke might not have to worry about finishing bottom at least. Tottenham are doing a decent job down there at the moment with 2 points from six games, having failed to score against the formerly-leaky defence of Portsmouth’s on Sunday. Goals from former Spurs duo Jermaine Defoe and Peter Crouch leaves Juande Ramos firm favourite to get the sack next. If only Martin Jol had remained in charge…

Crisis club Newcastle, fresh from their impressive appointment of an interim manager who hasn’t been heard of for 10 years, lost 2-1 to Blackburn and continued to provide amateur football team manager’s with perfect examples on how not to defend. The Toon Army can smile though, they still have double the points Spurs have and Mike Ashley is - supposedly - selling up this week. Let the good times roll!

Aston Villa continued their impressive form with a 2-1 win over Sunderland, having come from behind after former Liverpool man Djibril Cisse had opened the scoring. And Zola’s charm continued with West Ham winning against ten-man Fulham.

The final game of the weekend saw Man City defeated 2-1 at Wigan. City host Liverpool next Sunday.
