Bring On Chelsea (Again)
Written by Gerry on 14 Apr, 2007 (15 Comments) (Or jump to most recent comment.)

One of the great things about playing in the Champion’s League is that you get to see your team competing against some of the best teams in Europe, but unfortunately sometimes you’ve also got play a team like Chelsea. They are a team with relatively little history or pedigree in Europe, who have managed to bully their way through the competition and once again it has fallen to us, to take out the trash!

While we cruised through to the semi finals with a 4-0 aggregate win over PSV, the CSKA London boys booked their passage through with a very good away win at Valencia. While I must admit that was a great result for them, the chelshit fans, who are second only to the mancs when it comes to “only singing when they’re winning”, have gone completely over the top about it.

They seem to be trying to paint this result as the greatest away win in Europe, since the Christians went to the coliseum and unexpectedly beat the lions 3-2 after extra time, and since the game I’ve heard quite a few of them saying that if they play like that against Liverpool, they will win.

What these poor saps seem to fail to realise is that their team tried to play exactly the same way in our four previous CL meetings over the last two seasons, and didn’t manage to score a single goal against us. They also tried to play exactly the same way in our last four games in all competitions, and we’ve won three of them, so pardon me for not quaking in my boots! The reality is that we have nothing to fear from chelski but they have a number of reasons to fear us.

CSKA London hold few surprises for us tactically and, injuries permitting, I think we could all easily name the team that will face us in two weeks time. On the other hand, Mourinho will not be quite sure what to expect from Liverpool. While our squad may not be as strong as theirs, it is certainly more versatile and Rafa has a number of tactical options at his disposal. This may give us an advantage in the tie but its not the only advantage we have over them.

Perhaps the biggest advantage to us is that the second leg is at Anfield. I don’t know if the atmosphere in the stadium will have an effect on their players but I know that it certainly has an effect on ours, and our “twelfth man” will be doing everything it can to lift the team to victory so I suggest the chelski players and supporters bring some ear plugs!

Another factor which may have an effect on the game is that CSKA are still fighting on all fronts which is a good thing from their point of view, but the disadvantage of this is that they have a number of important games to play before the tie and really cannot afford to rest any of their main players. However, on our side of things our piss poor start to the season put paid to any chance we may have had to challenge for the Premiership this season, but we are in a relatively secure CL spot and can afford to rotate a few players in preparation for the semi final, so tired legs will not be a factor for us.

The yellow card situation could also be important. Essien will be suspended for the first leg and they have 5 or 6 other players sitting on yellow cards who could miss the second leg if they pick up a booking, Drogba, Joe Cole, Robben and Ballack among them. Whereas we have only got Jermaine Pennant on a yellow.

Whether any of these things I’ve mentioned become a factor in the semi final, remains to be seen, but even without them I would still strongly fancy our chances. Don’t get me wrong, I think it will be a tight, hard fought tie, but we’ve been there, done that and bought the t-shirt and I don’t see any reason why it will be any different this time. There is no doubt they have been superior to us in the Premiership and we will hope to put that right next season, but equally there is no doubt that we are the Masters of Europe and they are a mere pothole on the road to Athens and NUMBER 6!

Like i said on this blog Gerry, Watford would have stuffed Valencia in the second half the other night, if they had put all their first half chances away (2 sitter’s) i think they would have been out of sight, and the london mob would have struggled, but their manager must have had a few bob on cska how else do you inspire a team like that to play like that in the second half, let’s take Alves off he’s playing well, also Morientes he’s doing better than Villa so let’s have him off. On paper it look’s a good result for chelshit, but against a team that played the last 45mins like that? i dont fink so (little bit of cockney in case a southern retard read’s this). Read Brian Reade in the mirror this morning and he has said what my mate Corky said last week IF we get to the final and we get the mancs god help us, can you imagine the trouble, not just for the fan’s but for holidaymaker’s wether they be manc or scouse, i’ve read that the two clubs in the final will only get 17,000 ticket’s each, now if it is Liverpool v mancs they are going to take 30 to 40,000 fans respectively? what will happen to those who dont get in, does’nt sound to good does it, hope you give an opinion on this.

I know what you mean mate, that Valencia manager did seem to make some strange decisions during the game.

Just watch there ability to stop and frustrate the play once their under the pump. Its one of their sharpest tools. It’s something Barca and others do to stop momentum, it’s plain cheating.

As far as the moaning one, this could be his undoing as Grabemonthebits seems like he’s had enough. Maybe he actually bought the team to watch football. He should have bought a rugby league team if he wanted to watch players on the ground all day.

Gerry, just watched Blackburn v chelshit, how many minute’s out of the match did that lot from london lay on the ground supposedly injured ? maybe slumberland bed’s will use them for an advert, anyway skin of their teeth again but honestly they dont look that intimidating anymore it’s just a pity blackburn ran out of puff and talking of puff’s frank lampost does’nt look half the player he was last season, maybe it was his hectic world cup.

Agree with theredman

Lampard has had a bad season and is diclining in form (which is a pity since I liked him as a player)

Anyways. To be honest I think we got the ‘easiest’ opponent in the CL semis.

Bentley played well for blackburn. I really like him as a player and think he could be a good aquisition for us and a possible solution to our winger problem.

aussie_kopfan, i thought Pederson was Blackburn’s best player yesterday closely followed by David Dunn, i dont think Bentley is any better than Penant, he fucked up on the right too many times trying to get crosses in and not taking his man on. I would’nt mind Pedersen in our squad he’d be a good acquistion he work’s his sock’s off and he’s a very talented player having said that i could’nt believe the header he missed but then again how did Penant miss that sitter after six minutes against city ?. And lastly, dont you think Drogba look’s totally fucked at this time of the season, look’s like Rafa’s rotation is justified.

Gerry, i see cryin arse from the stamford gulag is at it again, he sent a rep to watch the Reds v city and he said he came away after 60mins saying it was like a testimonial match as was the game against PSV so they (Liverpool) are really preparing for the semi final, cant the daft bastard see that Rafa would give anything to be in their position, anyway you’d think he would be happy now that roman has started rogering him again.

Well theredman,

i think we should allow them to say these silly things. it’s just part of the mind games now! but Rafa is no fool and he has responded very intelligently. Puts the mind games back on them now!

Once more – “We were friends until we started beating them” – absolutely love it.

We will be more than ready for them!

Onto yesterday’s game I was very impressed by Blackburn and thought they should have nicked it. However credit to Chelsea for grinding out the win.
At least we know the final will be contested moreso than that sham of a team Millwall did the last time the scum were there!

Does anyone think Chelsea’s game is actually boring and relies heavily on the players being atheletes and being able to run miles and miles rather than having talent and individual flair. Their whole game seems to be centred around set pieces and pumping balls to Drogba. Absolute shite!

Like I’ve said we are more than ready for them! And as you rightly say Gerry it’s up to us to kick out the trash…..love it!

Redman, Agreed, Pederson was their best player on Sunday (that header aside), but i think bentley is one for the future. i think he works alot harder than pennant and has bags of potential. I’d really like to see us sign him. Pederson would be a good signing too…although do we have enough mirrors in the change room for Pederson and Gonzalez to be doing their hair??

Gerry, If united have violence problems with their supporters and the Milan supporters (more than possible), do you think they will have some sort of sanctions put on them for the final?? Surely they must, that would be the lille game where there was trouble with the Scum supporters, both ties at Roma and then the ties with Milan….

This is good……this is really good. Is this a Liverpool site or A chelsea site? forgive me for not having the ability to answer that question. You discuss Chelsea and their “shit football” more than you discuss your own club. Fact is you guys would give your left testicles to be in Chelsea’s position. Red is the wrong colour for Liverpool, Green is a better option. Talk all you want now cause you will have nothing to say when Chelsea fly to Athens.

Lads,

One of the most bizarre things about Chelsea, or rather, Mourinho is that with the players at his disposal (I mean, let’s be fair, it’s not as if they’re totally crap), he sets out this really boring tactic; and I don’t just mean the lets-flop-down-at-every-opportunity-and-get-a-freekick plan that everyone is pointing out here. When is the last time we have seen them play proper possession football?? It is worse than watching an Italian team, and that is saying something.

Mr. Special-one then goes on to sell players like Duff and Gudjohnsen and complains that he lacks the best of his squad when some get injured.

I tell you, this is one of the most selfish kind of management I have seen of late, and I don’t care if he has won the title a couple of times or that he won the Champions League with Porto. It is just criminal with all the players he has.

We really have to win this lads, for football’s sake.
I can’t believe Chelsea fans are not complaining…

Gerry and aussie_kopfan, i think whiskey face ferguson has a blimp at this forum, as soon as Pedersen’s name is mentioned they find an £8m buyout clause, now if they get him he will really make their squad a lot stronger so i think the Reds should offer £10m afterall he is a proven Prem player and that’s what a lot of the lad’s on this site have been asking for.
