Apologies for the delay between blogs, it’s been a strange week here at Kopblog HQ. In what could be considered an ironic twist of fate, I spent the day of the 20th anniversary of Hillsborough attending a funeral of a relative. My Aunt passed away peacefully in her sleep last weekend and I suppose if you’ve got to go, that’s the way to do it. Anyway with funerals and various other things going on I’ve hardly had time to scratch myself these past few days but I’m back now and I’m pissed off!
I was damn proud of the effort put in by The Reds at the Bridge in midweek but it was frustrating to come so close to achieving our objective only to have it slip away from us. The question ahead of the game was whether we could get through the strong chav defence to score the goals we required, and having Steven Gerrard ruled out with injury appeared to be a major blow to our chances. So I think you’ve got to give full credit to our lads for battling away and scoring four goals, a feat many claimed to be impossible particularly without our captain.
Unfortunately we also managed to concede four which was very disappointing. For me the turning point came from that OG by Reina. I’m not having a go at Pepe because sometimes these things just happen but we were 2-0 up at the time and if we could have kept it at that for a little longer I believe we would have got through. Once that goal went in it filled the chavs with confidence and they became a different team.
There’s no point in me going over the game again at this late stage as it’s already been well covered by others. All I would say is that other than the whistle-happy referee, a guy clearly depriving some poor village of its idiot, who did us few favours and really got on my tits, I’ve got no complaints. I take some consolation from the fact that we played our part in a great game and our performance should give us the heart to go and do our stuff in the rest of our league campaign.
What I really wanted to cover in this blog is this latest attack on Rafa by Fergiescum and his lapdog Allardyce. Given my situation at home this week, I didn’t get the chance to follow much of the media coverage after our game at the Bridge. Strangely though, despite the fact that we got knocked out the little I did see seemed to be generally positive about us, more positive than the mancs received for struggling through against the weakest side in the competition.
Which makes me wonder if this could be part of the reason for this latest joint verbal attack on our boss? But before going into the detail of what’s been said, there are a couple things worth noting about these clowns. The Bung Brothers are connected in more ways than one. There have been serious questions about some of their shady dealings in the transfer market in the past and both have sons who were exposed by the BBC in separate investigations into their extremely dodgy dealings as football agents, where they were fully supported by their fathers. So let us have no lectures on respect for the game from these two pillars of morality!
Anyway, getting back to the matter at hand I find Allardyce’s comments to be particularly cowardly and unwarranted given the fact that he has waited almost a week to make them. He now accuses Rafa of being disrespectful towards him which is a bit rich coming from a guy who publicly called our manager a “whinger” and a “moaner” a couple of days before we played them last week.
Allardyce’s claims in his latest rant he was very upset that Rafa made a disrespectful gesture towards him and his side after Liverpool had scored the second goal in our 4-0 thumping of Blackburn last weekend. Strangely though after the game Allardyce was all smiles and even went so far as to suggest that Liverpool played great and could go on to win the title.
There was certainly no hint of this upset he now claims a week later that he was feeling. The supposed “disrespectful” hand gesture by Rafa can be viewed here, make of it what you will. However I hear he was actually gesturing towards Xabi Alonso because he had taken the free-kick that led to our second goal differently than the way Rafa had instructed him to but as we scored from it the smile and gesture that followed was apparently a light-hearted “it’s ok, pay no attention to me” message to Xabi. We will no doubt hear Rafa’s explanation soon enough but surely that makes a lot more sense than Allardyce’s and Fergiescums interpretation.
The swiftness in which Fergiescum has leapt on this makes it more than a little suspicious that this whole thing has been co-ordinated. This is what the old fart had to say earlier today;
“Benitez said Everton are a small club, which just points to his arrogance,” said Ferguson.
“But it is one thing to show the arrogance he did. What you cannot forgive is the contempt for Sam Allardyce last week when Liverpool scored the second goal.
“I don’t think Sam deserved that. He is a guy who has worked so hard for the LMA (League Managers’ Association), looking after young players.
“He had a weakened team and to get that kind of contempt….I don’t think any other Liverpool manager would have done that. It was beyond the pale.”
As you can see from the above he even went so far as to drag up the supposed “small club” reference made by Rafa in relation to Everton about three years ago, strange that he should wait all this time to finally comment about it!
Another interesting point about his comments today is that ahead of the first leg of our CL tie with the chavs a little more than a week ago, Rafa was asked a question about Fungushead which he answered and when Fergiescum heard about it he said, “But the interesting thing as far as Rafa Benítez is concerned is that he’s got a European tie and he’s talking about Alex Ferguson. Fantastic – I didn’t know I was that important.”
So with that in mind, if Rafa chooses to respond to this latest crap I think it would be hilarious if he threw that one back at the old fart and said, “But the interesting thing as far as Alex Ferguson is concerned is that he’s got an FA Cup semi-final and he’s talking about Rafa Benitez. Fantastic – I didn’t know I was that important!”
As far as I’m concerned all of this rubbish stems from the fact that Benitez has clearly gained the upper hand over the manc boss when it comes to these so-called “mind games”. During these verbal exchanges he has been coolness personified to such an extent that even some of the media have swung just a little bit more towards him and away from the moaning old Scottish git.
In fact I think his latest rant may very well blow up in Fergie’s face. I say this because to me this is quite clearly a co-ordinated set-up between Fungushead and his lapdog, and an embarrassingly inept one at that. He is insulting the intelligence of people if he thinks they can’t see through it and in my opinion this is a sure sign that Rafa has got under his skin and he is becoming increasingly desperate. Check this article out for example Click Here
We are running out of games in the league and it could turn out that we fall a little short of overtaking them but when it comes to mind games there’s a new master in town and he needs no help from his friends to mentally torture his rivals. Perhaps in future Fergiescum would do well to remember the old saying, a closed mouth gathers no foot!
Keep the Faith

I have to admit the events over the last 24 hours has taken me by surprise.
Ferguson and Allardyce has taken this too far. How could SA claim a smile and a wave of the hand by Benitez towards his own players insulting to him? Allardyce himself publicly called Benitez a ‘whinger’ two days before the game.
Allardyce got soundly beaten on Saturday and Ferguson’s team needed a 17 year old to rescue their game despite 100million pounds worth of strikers being fielded.
Allardyce I think accepted he was beaten by a far superior team. But Ferguson is rattled and resorted to dirty games once again. The big bully summons his bitch and planned a co-ordinated cowardly ‘smear’ campaign, against Benitez, who unlike Fergie’s previous nemesis Morinho, is low key and more introvert.
Some of the reporting done on this is disgraceful. Check out football365′s story and they are trying to convince their readers that Ferguson have been tolerating the ‘arrogance’ of our manager but ‘this time’ decided to voice out, as if he is a hero trying to help the ‘victim’.
Not that I have ever wished otherwise, but now I really do hope results over the rest of league campaign go our way. Any title winning side needs a little bit of luck. United has had plenty of it in the last two games (which has prevented us overtaking them). If there is such a thing as Karma, let it backfire onto the bully that is Ferguson over the remaining 6-7 games.

I’ve read in a few newspapers websites that Gerrard has been ruled out of the Arsenal game. I’m fucking gutted if that is true. Our luck with injuries has been absolutely rotten this season!!

Great Blog Gerry….sorry about your aunt…….
a point I have wanted to raise this week but thought inappropriate to do so what with the Chelsea game and the memorial was concerning my pet hate, the bias the media show towards the Scum……did anyone in UK see ITVs greatest ever Champions league moments on Monday night? Any guesses on what came in as number one all time greatest champions League moment according to ITV (whose local sub-division, Granada, is, I believe a major shareholder in scum plc)…….I,ll give you a clue, Istanbul was number 2………yep, it was the Scum in 1999….even the shows anchor man (Nick somebody or other) introduced number 1 with “it wouldnt have been my choice for top spot, but they were voted for by the team”…….. the team being Andy “im even too shit for sky sports” Townsend, Robbie “I have never won anything in the game worth winning” Earle, and David “me, with a prozzie, in Spurs car park?” Pleat…….jeez, they spend all week commenting on the Championship, they must miss all that Fergie kiss assing……..

I think whether Rafa’s hand gestures did mean to insult or not is not the issue. Obviously the 2 idiots had first decided to gang up to try to unsettle us, and happened to pick on Rafa’s hand gestures. I can’t believe how these 2 idiots are insulting the intelligence of the public and yet there are actually people who had bought into it!
I believe Rafa and his coaching team will and can turn this into our favour for the rest of the season and in the seasons to come.

Hey lads I’m sitting here having a beer and found this in an ex-pat paper ‘home and away’ on the Dagger situation, the papers source is RTE. ‘Agger’s heart is at Anfield’ – I am at the stage of my career where I need to play but that situation has nothing to do with the contract talks. I dont know when things will be decided. In my heart i hope i will be here next season but really i dont know. I know there have been reports in Denmark that my agent has spoken to clubs in italy but they were wrong.’

If Little Sam is a reflection of English Management, as a respected member of the League Managers Association, it shows you why 3 out of the top four have continental managers, and the bottom 3 all have English one’s.
.
No wonder England needs an oversee’s manager, can’t find one in England with the likes of Sam, Warnock, O’Neil, Redknapp and others.
.
Sam the manager your having when you don’t need a manager. I still reckon it has more to do with the next game of our’s rather than actual incident.

Itandje:
“First of all, if my behaviour has caused offence to anyone then I can only apologise,” said the 26-year-old.
“I am sorry. I am sorry. I am sorry. A thousand times, I am sorry.
“To the club, to the fans and especially to the families, I am deeply sorry.
“It was, of course, never my intention to offend or disrespect anyone.
“The events at Hillsborough were a tragedy and in no way did I mean to disrespect the memory of what happened 20 years ago. I would never do that. I would like to speak to the families in person to offer my apologies to them because, like I said, I never meant to hurt anyone.”

Old Taggert didn’t rate Evans ,Ranieri or Houllier and lavished faint praise on them from time to time.If it wasn’t for a few unlucky draws we would have the title wrapped up by now and Fergie knows we will win it next season .The last Liverpool manager to give Fergie stick was King Kenny-four titles as a manager-Taggert slags people who he sees as threat-Wenger, Jose etc.
Is Fat Sam capable of thinking for himself?.About time he took his tongue out of Fergie’s posterior. Will S G be fit for Tuesday?.

…..Meanwhile, Andriy Voronin, whom Liverpool offloaded on loan, seems set to return to the Anfield when his deal with Hertha Berlin expires at the end of the season. The Hertha manager, Dieter Hoeness, said his club could not afford the Ukraine striker’s transfer fee and salary, and Voronin said yesterday: “It looks like I’ll be going back to Liverpool. It’s a pity, I am little bit disappointed. But I can also understand the financial problems.”
Voronin has scored 11 goals for Hertha this season, becoming known as “King Andriy” in the German tabloids. Only Hertha qualifying for the Champions League would make a permanent deal viable though that is up in the air. “Nobody knows now if we’ll get there and I can’t buy out my own contract,” he said. Voronin’s deal with Liverpool runs for another two seasons.

Just read the blog. I will read the comments in a moment, because I don’t want to lose this thought…
Lst night I found the whole episode hilarious. The hypocrisy and irony of it all tickled me to bits. That hypocritical fucking Tramp, who has built a career based upon bullying and arrogance, attacking a decent honourable man like Rafa, well… it’s funnier than a drunken Glaswegian telling the cops he was driving on the hard shoulder because he’d shit he’s kecks!
But you’re right Gerry. It’s not funny. It’s disgusting. And The Bung Brothers (Love that one) should be brought up by the FA and Premiereship for bringing the game into disrepute.
Fat chance, eh.
But, I was thinking about something this morning. I had Talk Shite on the radio and the Fat Bluenose, Parry, and he’s drunken Glaswegian sidekick, Brazil, spent a large part of the breakfast show (4 hours) making out Rafa is a right prick. Of course they never had the bollacks to come out and say it, but that was what they was not so subtely inferring….
Ferguson = driven, combative, single mided winner.
Rafa = arrogant, cowardly, whingeing moaner.
It was quite funny really, until you realise this shit is the most listened to sports/footy show in Britain and is broadcast worldwide. No doubt most of the papers and Sly Sports will come to the same conclusion, and so… brainwash people into believing this quite disgraceful character assination.
We all know the thought of Rafa telling his team “It’s over,” at 2 – 0 is quite ridiculous. The fucker isn’t happy with 4 goals when we can get more and up the goal difference.
But LFC fans (The S*n – THE TRUTH) know better than most, that the uneducated actually believe this shite they are force fed by the media. And I could go on about that and the actual character assination but here’s me point…
We all know what a driven determined fucker Rafa is. We all know what he wants to achieve here. We all know he will not back down, no matter how powerful the enemy. We all know how much he loves the club, the fans and the city. We all know how much Montse loves life in Liverpool. (Did anybody see her singing all the songs and wiping away her tears at the memorial. Class women, Montse). We all know she has told Rafa he can leave if he likes but her and the girls are staying.
All of this could be good PR, but if it is, they have conned the fuck out of me and multi thousands even more cynical than me.
So what I’m saying in a long winded way is…
I hope to fuck The Bung Brothers keep doing it. I hope all the good old boys in The League Manager’s Association fall into line and jump on the bandwagon. I hope the media tear into Rafa and make him public enemy number 1. I hope the great unwashed all fall for it. Because the more they turn against him, the more driven he will become. We know he will not wilt, buckle or give in. And I have a feeling he will just have a little laugh and it will be water off a duck’s back. But I just hope they really get under his skin, drive him into wanting to stay at LFC all the more and torture them by dominating the English and European game for years and years to come.
VIVA DON RAFAEL!

And Gaz… you have that spot on, mate. The LMA is nothing but an old boy’s club, and zenophobic fucker’s like The Tramp, His Poodle, Redknapp, MON, Brown, et al, can’t stand Johnny Foriegner out doing them.
Fuck them. LFC against the rest. It’s the way it’s always been. It’s the way I like it. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Gerry, Sorry to hear about your aunt, casuing you to miss the Hillsborough memorial. The Liverpool Supporter’s Club Malaysia collected at a special Hillsborough event to raise funds from members by auctioning LFC memorabilia contributed by members. We took in about Stg3,000/- and flew one of our staunch members to personally hand in the donations coinciding with the service. This event was held at the Cobra Club jjust before the Blackburn Rovers’ game.
Which brings me on to Fergie’s rant and Sam’s grunt. It disgusts me. I thought Sam was a gentleman when he even acknowledged after the 4-0 drubbing that LFC could well be the PL Champions this year. Looking at the video clip again, Rafa was smiling when he gestured this. He was not scornful or maliciously looking at Sam A and mocking or teasing him at all. Thankfully some of the media people are still decent to say there must be some collusion between Fergie and Sam on this episode. I think this will come to haunt them both.
Game over at 2-0? Fucking hell, Rafa was mad like hell we only won 5-0 against Aston Villa. At the post match interview, he was asked why he was not happy, not smiling, even with that result and he said that we should put more goals in as in the end it may come down to goal difference.
But as FS said, Rafa is a damn determined bloke. He is also shrewd and analytical, not emotional. He is clearly quite the opposite of SAF. And I do think losing twice, especially with a unimaginable 1-4 scoreline against “MU’s best team in Years” at Old Toilet to Don Rafael is eating up Fergie now. Hahaha!

Football365 is a Manc worshipping website, I don’t go anywhere near the fucker!
Gerrard being out is a blow, but we scored 4 goals at Scumford Bridge without him, so if we can improve our defending we should be able to beat Arsenal and Hull City without him as well.
Lucas looks like he is starting to improve. I thought he had a half decent game against the Chavs. Of course, he can never feel the void left by Gerrard’s absence but with him, Masch and Xabi as our choice of central midfielders against Arsenal and Hull it is still not looking too bad. Hopefully Stevie will be back for the home game against

++King Kenny in Benitez talks++
Apr 18 2009 by Andy Kelly, Liverpool Echo
KENNY Dalglish is set for a sensational return to Liverpool Football Club.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez wants his legendary predecessor as a key new part of his backroom staff and moves are already afoot to create a position for Dalglish.
Benitez has raised the matter with American club owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett and would like to tie up a deal at the earliest possible opportunity.
The ECHO understands preliminary talks have already taken place between Benitez and Dalglish and although nothing has been finalised the discussions are believed to have gone well.
Benitez would like to give Dalglish a roving role which would see the 58-year-old divide his time between the Academy in Kirkby, Melwood and Anfield but with a particular emphasis on an advisorial role on youth development.
The Liverpool manager recently ordered a review of the Academy which is being headed up by former chief scout Frank McParland as he seeks to ensure more young players of potential first team standard are produced than is currently the case.
Should Dalglish be recruited it would provide a shot in the arm for the Academy which has come in for plenty of criticism in recent years.
Dalglish has not been employed in a senior football role since leaving his position as director of football at Celtic in July 2000.
The Kop hero has been linked with several managerial jobs since then but his strong links with Merseyside and his charity work on behalf of his wife’s Marina Dalglish Appeal have meant he has not been enticed into taking employment at any of the clubs which have shown an interest in acquiring his services.
But the lure of Liverpool would be strong for Dalglish who served the club as both player and manager from 1977 until 1991.
When he quit Anfield in February 1991 saying he needed to take a break from football the shockwaves reverberated throughout the sport with Liverpool fans being distraught at the loss of the man they refer to as “King Kenny”.
He later admitted his regret that he was not offered a return to Liverpool in the immediate aftermath of his sudden departure but 18 years later he could now finally be given the opportunity to reignite his love affair with the club he joined from Celtic.
It is now up to Hicks and Gillett to approve the proposed move and should this happen it would require only the agreement of personal terms for Dalglish to complete a sensational return to Anfield.

Serves that fat piece of shit right, for joining forces with Ferguscum in a vicious co-ordinated attack against Rafa. I hope they get relegated, so he’ll become another useless moaning bitch like Neil Warnock.
Good thing Wet Spam equalized against Villa with 5 minutes to go, it means Villa has lost points yet again, so Arsenal won’t need to go all out against us this Tuesday, as they have the coming match with the Chavs in mind, as well as the Champions League against the Scum.
So give it your all for today, you Gooners, I don’t mind you beating the crap out of the Chavs, if it means having to play extra time and penalties, heh heh heh.

If agent Pennant can help put a dent in the Mancs title chances, he could well end up with a Premier Leauge champions medal at the end of the season. Motivation enough?

A mate of mine said something the other day, I think you lads might like to see it….
I was on the TLW website the other day and came across a amazing piece on Taggart.
I’m not saying he’s not a World class Manager but he’s unbelievably Lucky
He’s fortunate in that he will never get a crop of players like he inherited from United’s Youth team namely Giggs,Beckham, Neville’s, Butt and Scholes.
But just look at His 1st five years in charge, the figure’s are unbelievable
86-87 finished 11th 30 pts behind the Champions.
87-88 finished 2nd 9 pts behind the Champions.
88-89 finished 11th 25 pts behind the Champions
89-90 finished 13th 31 points behind the Champions
90-91 finished 6th 24 pts behind the Champions.
Without seeing it with my own eyes i WOULD NEVER BELIEVE IT.
And we get silly twats having a go at Rafa.
Without a shadow of doubt,if he was starting out now, he wouldn’t have got to the 3rd Season.
By the way he won the FA Cup in 1990!!!
*******************************************
That’s it printed as wrote, but I thought a bit more about it…
I knew the tramp had a crap start, and was on the verge of the sack when he inherited all that talent from the academy. And I always gave him credit for practically stealing Cantona from Leeds and adding an experinced head to all that youthful talent.
But if you really think about it, that was when the huge money came into football. And after that, all he really done was buy more expensively and more often than anyone else. And while we slept, he just went out every season and smashed the transfer record, out buying every other club.
There was the Blackburn blip, when Jack Walker gave Dalglish the money to compete. But then he just out spent them.
Arsene Wenger is the only real competition he’s had. And he has out thought him every time, but due to Wenger’s refusal to splash the cash when Arsenal have been in transition, the tramp has almost had it all his own way for over 2 decades.
And when you factor all that in, his record doesn’t seem that great then – especially a paltry 2 European cups. And I hope to watch us destroy him and his hold over the game. But I fear, now that he realises there is someone is going to stand up to him, like any other bully, he will soon head for the hills.
And if he can anger a gentleman like Knight, into swearing… well, that just shows you what a truly rotten man he is.
Well done Knight. I swear one day, I will come to Malaysia for a wee holiday and sink a few pints with you and the other reds in the Cobra Club while watching a game.

@Steve the red. Excellent point about Pennant.
Big Sam (euphemism for fat clueless f@ck) has talked himself into the relegation places and he could make history as the first manager ever to relegate 2 clubs from the Premier League in a single season.
I’m starting to question Fergie’s sanity. Why talk about Rafa on the eve of a FA cup tie? This is disrespectful to Everton by proxy Mr “mind games genius”. This could really really backfire for Sir Alex after a slim victory over Porto they will be up against an Everton team hungry for trophy success. It will be a hard game. I think the scum will narrowly go through but on Weds night Portsmouth now have the freedom to play with results going their way today. Man Ure players will be asking themselves why is Sir Alex talking about rafa when he should be talking about the fa cup. It doesn’t inspire confidence.
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/glenn-moore-when-the-sideshow-goes-this-far-it-reveals-a-troubled-mind-1670322.html
No wonder Rafa is laughing it off. Its advantage to him now. Do you think Arsene Wenger will want to see his old archenemy’s hands on the Premiership again ?
Ha ha you have revealed yourself to be a fool Sir Alex. Vastly over-rated in the media for his mind games.
PS if you think my personal attack on Big Sam is disgraceful then I kindly ask all morons to refrain from referring to rafa as a “small fat spanish waiter” and mentioning his goatee ad nauseum

FS, I agree, and most of your points I’ve also mentioned in one of Gerry’s previous blogs not long ago.
For these 20 years, only Wenger gave Ferguscum a run of his money, while the Chavs outspent him in 2005 and 2006. It wasn’t until the Chavs put their gas off the spending peddle that Ferguscum came out top again.
And now Ferguscum has finally met someone who actually got under his skin – Rafa, who has managed to assemble an efficient machine with a fraction of Ferguscum’s budget.
Speaking of Wenger, today showed why Rafa’s still better than him. For fuck’s sake, Arshavn’s cup tied for the Champions League, and you’ve got nothing to fight for in the Premier League, I don’t understand why he’s placed in the bench for today’s FA Cup match with the Chavs, and Dogbreath duly punished them for it.

Not only that. Wenger refuses to spend a bit of money for a good goalie and now he’s paid for it. Again. I hope Fabianski is playing on Tuesday night.
Arsenal are a momentum team so their defeat might be good news for us. Their confidence will have taken a blow.

I sort of lost respect for Wenger long back. I got sick of his all seeing eye seeing fuck all and I got tired of his whingeing when things didn’t go his way.
But I suppose you have to give him credit for actually knowing the game – even though, when he first arrived here, the ever humble mr ferguson thought he knew nothing about the english game and “Should stick to managing in Japan.”
Shame the FA Cup final is actually after the CL final this year. (What the fuck’s going on there?)
But anyway, here’s my perfect end to the season…
Liverpool – Premiereship.
Barcelona – Champion’s League.
FA Cup – Everton.
Some LFC fans would kill me for sacriledge. They’d rather see Man U, Chelsea, anyone win anything rather than Everton.
I just can’t be like that. Like I’ve said a million times, I’m from an older friendlier time.
I certainly hope Rafa doesn’t, but maybe I should take his advice and make better use of my spare time…. and spend it bitterly drinking and getting nastily pissed instead of wasting it on football.

FS – Totally agree about EFC winning the FA cup. At least in the twentieth year a Meseyside team could be lifting the trophy. Whisper it quietly but it might also make them a little less bitter.
I have also got a strange feeling that it is written somewhere that we will lift the league this year, the same feeling I had in 2005 about the European cup. Personally now that we are out not bothered who wins the European cup as long as the final is Arsenal V Barcelona.
More good news hopefully to be announced very soon. THE KING IS BACK.

Your’e not alone FS, I want Everton to win the F.A Cup now, in my book they are the least of the three evils left in the competition. And it will be fun to play them in the Charity Shield in August.
Good points you made about Fergie FS. He was so lucky the board stuck with him, the jammy cunt!
And we are all fortunate that Rafa has penned his new 5 year contract.
The thought of Kenny Dalglish re-joining LFC in any capacity has to be fantastic news, let’s hope it happens.

flicking through reuters….as you do…
OTTAWA, April 18 (Reuters) – American George Gillett is seeking a partner willing to invest $400 million into a sporting empire that includes Liverpool soccer club and the Montreal Canadiens NHL team, a newspaper said on Saturday.
The French-language La Presse, citing sources involved with the proposed sale of the Canadiens, said such an investment would enable the financially-pressed businessman to hold on to the teams.
La Presse said Gillett had proposed to several business executives that they invest $400 million and become a junior partner, but had generated little interest so far.
Gillett said last month that he had hired a team of advisors to look at his assets and denied media reports he wanted to sell some of them.
“My family and I regard this possibility as the last resort. We are a lot more interested in some kind of (business) association than in the sale of the Montreal Canadiens or one of our other enterprises,” Gillett told the newspaper on Friday.
Gillett owns 80.1 percent of the Canadiens and 50 percent of five-times European champions Liverpool.
Canadian media last week said would-be buyers were being asked to submit formal offers for the Canadiens and several groups had signed confidentiality agreements with the Bank of Montreal’s investment banking arm.
Gillett declined to comment on the reports, saying the banking arm had yet to complete its work.

This is dated wednesday so wouldn’t have been covered due to Hillsborough…
MILAN, April 15 (Reuters) – Kaka has urged AC Milan to try to sign Steven Gerrard, despite the England midfielder recently agreeing a new contract with Liverpool.
“A cycle is ending. The time has arrived to re-energise a group which has many players at the end of their contracts,” the Brazil playmaker told Italy’s Sky television on Wednesday.
“If it was up to me, I would take someone like Gerrard, who for me is a complete player and can play anywhere. I could see him fitting in really well at Milan,” added Kaka, who almost joined Manchester City for a world record fee in January

The added bonus is that they will knock out ManUre (and Chelski in the Cup Final at Wembley).

Wouldn`t it be great if we won the league and eveton won the fa cup.I think if you offered that senario to the toffees now they`d snap your hand off.
Wouldn`t it be great FS if the two biggest domestic trophy`s were back in the city just like the good old days.
Reds and blues could then travel down to wembley together for the charity shield in a sunny sunday in august.Old school blues and reds could educate the youngsters on the way things used to be.
I know there would be a brilliant vibe around wembley and the bitterness would be thrown out the window.
I think it would do wonders for the red/blue relationship that has gone somewhat sour since..well the dawn of the premier league i suppose.

And this is despite this bluenose supporter at work mocking me about how Liverpool’s season is over the other day after the Champions League match. I decided to let him live in his moment of delusion for now before I rub it back at him come May 24th.

Morning lads. Well, don’t hold your breath on a return to the good old days. The youngsters now hate each other with a passion. And even old hands like meself have been drawn into it. I’ve got life long mates who go mad at me for refusing to hate Everton. It’s sad. But that’s the way it is.
We always hated each others clubs, but it was rivalry and banter. But it’s far beyond that nowadays, and some of it can be really nasty.
There’s still some good people about, as seen at the memorial, and Everton fans have been waving a Justice For The 96 flag, which I hope to see at Wembley today and at the final. But there’s a large section of LFC fans who’d rather see United win.
So, there’s still good and bad at both clubs. But the days of the “Friendly Derby” are long gone. I hope to see it return one day. But I won’t be holding me breath.
Anyway, roll on Tuesday. Can’t wait to see some real football again.

Condolences regarding your Aunt, Gerry.
Part of me now wants to see Blackburn go down now, just because of Big Fatmouth. However if they do go down, he will probably just ride off into the sunset and leave them to battle it out for themselves down there, so from that point of view I do feel for them because they are a decent enough club.
I was watching Fungus’ post-match inteview with MUTV when they beat Sunderland the other day, and in it he let slip that he’d been talking to Fat Sam on the phone that morning. I found that pretty curious (but not surprising) given Fat Sam was playing Fungus’ biggest title rivals that day. The Bung Brothers indeed!
I’ve been away for a few weeks so could only scan through the comments on the other blogs, so apologies if this has already been covered – but what a complete and utter disgrace the PFA Player of the Year nominees are. Must the entire league continually wank the Manure team? You’d think they were utterly dominating the league and 15 points clear. And this crap about Edwin van der Saar being in there is pathetic – in itself it is ridiculous for him to be in there AND Ferdinand and Vidic, because if Rio and Vidic are such great defenders, then that means Van der Saar doesn’t have much to do and spends most of the matches standing around scratching his ass!! It just goes to show how stupid the average player is I guess.
Just how Xabi Alonso is not in the list is also a mystery to me, he has been absolutely outstanding this year, it is a downright disgrace that he isn’t being recognised for it. For me he has been the best midfielder in the country this season. Would love to hear the Kop chanting his name even more to help show our appreciation, as I know the Kop love him.

Agreed FS,maybe it was asking too much for the return of the old days but i`m sure if both teams collected silverware, tensions would be eased slightly for the summer at least. Then when the season starts the bitters will be convinced they`re ready for an assault on the title until we go to goodison and come away with the three points, put them back to reality and they realise there cup win was the latest in the cycle of winning a trophy every 15 years and the bitterness will turn to a new level when they realise it`ll be 2024 until they win a trophy again and this time it will be the league cup and i`m talking through my ass so i`m going to shut up now.

Hopefully Everton can kick the crap out of Manure today, take the game to a grinding extra-time, and win with a flukey last-minute deflection. Well that’s what I have been hoping anyway, until I just read that Mike Riley has been chosen to referee the game. Even one of my mates who is a Manc admits that when he sees that Riley will be reffing one of their games, he laughs and relaxes, knowing that the Mancs can’t do any better than that.

Good morning lads. I’ve just returned to Malta having spent a week and a half in LIVERPOOL. The first match was a bit disappointing watching our team lose 1-3 to Chelsea but then I saw the team destroy Blackburn. I can’t get enough of Liverpool, the team and the city! This year my wife and daughter, who is 13 and Liverpool mad, came with me and enjoyed the city too. In fact my daughter wants us to sell our house and come over there for good. But I’m 42, with a decent job and settled here in Malta. If I was 10 years younger, I might consider it.
I’m saying all this to encourage fellow Reds around the world to visit Liverpool, it is such a lovely city with wonderful people. There are some rotten apples in every country and town, so the bad press Liverpool sometimes receives is not justified, in my opinion.
On to football matters, I hope Arsenal rest some players next Tuesday, otherwise it is going to be a very hard game for us. I hope RAFA picked the team up from the disappointment of scoring 4 goals at Chelsea and still go out. They must have been shattered, putting that effort but to no avail. Is it only me noting that during the couple of matches against Chelsea, Carra looked very tired and jaded?!?
We must keep Agger at all costs, Carra can’t play all our matches next season from what I’m seeing. We should keep all four central defenders, including Sammi, his experience is invaluable.

Lads it may have been already written, but I watched the Arsenal, Chelsea game, well it’s not just Drogba who goes down in that team. There was some shocking decisions from the ref.
.
Some of the free kicks to Chelsea bordered on match fixing. However the ref had no problem letting Ballack smash a player in possession with the ball before it was sent to Drogba who scored.
.
Arsenal were well and truely ripped off by very ordinary referring.
.
Did you lads think the game appeared slow and going through the motions.

Timmy/all
I would imagine that most Reds now want Everton to win the F.A Cup (and us to win the PL of course) despite the fact that some bluenoses really hate LFC. Some can never forgive a great Everton team being amongst the English teams being banned from Europe in the wake of the Hysel stadium disaster.
The fact that Juventus thugs instigated that disaster is besides the point to some Everton fans. The way they see it is Liverpool stopped Everton competing in Europe when they had a very good side.
Talking of tragedies, BCC Sport claims that Home Secretary Jaqui Smith has requested that certain files and documents from Police, Ambulance crew and bystanders from the Hillsorough disaster be made public 10 years early.
Apparently these documents/files are usually kept confidential for 30 years after this type of incident, but they may now be released into the public domain. If this were to happen, the families of the 96 reds who will never ever be forgoten, may get the justice they are seeking in the very near future. Let’s all hope that this is the case. Those families have waited far too long already. The 30 year ruling is a joke and should be scrapped. Proper and unequivical justice for the 96 must happen. Perhaps the Government are finally going to do the decent thing.

I’m an Evertonian for to-day’s game against ManUre and want to see the Blues win the FA Cup against Chelsea!

So the semi-final of the Paint Drying Cup goes to Extra time….. YAWN!!!
Worth noting to some of the younger chaps is that in addition to Jack Hill’s comment regarding the fact that Everton feel some bitterness about not being able to compete in Europe…
one has to remember that Liverpool and Everton were frequently #1 and #2 during the 80s.
When we were winning all and sundry, it very often wasn’t the Mancs, Chavs or Arse that we were beating in the cups or ended up #2 in the League… it was Everton.
Any bitterness felt by Everton fans is entirely understandable when you consider the heights Everton rode in the 80s and the depths to which they sank in the 90s, frequently avoiding relegation by the merest of margins.
History Lesson over… come on Everton, do yourselves and us a favor and twat the Mancs.

What a fuckin YAWN fest! I can’t belive that’s the same team that knocked us out of the Cup (…okay, they were missing Arteta, but still!)
Anyway… nice 120 minute slugfest for Vidic and Cokehead (nice penalty dickhead) capped off by the hopefully psychological setback of losing!
And congrats to Everton for progressing. I hope they beat the Chavs and bring the cup back to Merseyside!
Now can we just talk a little bit about respect?
Let me see if I understand it correctly.
Rafa makes a simple hand gesture in the direction of one of his players and he’s disrespecting Allardyce and Blackburn.
Fungus fields a team of reserves in an FA Cup semi-final, yet not a word about disrespecting the competition, or his opposition????
Hmmm…….
And FS I know post-Heysel was the beginning of it (I have been around almost as long as you have and also have blue family and mates) but it ain’t that simple… it goes way beyond that
mate.
Christ you only have to look at some of the comments in here from Reds fans, during a season when we have been competing for the Prem and until recently the CL, to know that if we had fallen from grace and become a mid-table team, we’d probably be a WHOLE LOT more bitter than Everton fans.
There is a portion of Reds support massively bitter about the fact we haven’t won the league for 18 years… in a time when we’ve never been outside the top 6 for fucks sake… we’ve never had to experience the fall into relegation dogfights… (And let’s not forget the absolutely massive rations of shite we’ve served them over the decades, from our lofty perch)…so I don’t entirely blame Blues fans for being bitter, that though we haven’t won it, we’ve still always been up at the top and they haven’t… because we have lauded it over them.
but whatever, on behalf of my Uncle Billy and cousin Paul (who dearly/desperately love the blues in the same manner I do the Reds) and the rest of my blue family members… Good Luck against the Chavs and bring the FA Cup back to Merseyside!
(two cup parades are gonna be a nice way to kick the summer off!)

Aitch most young blues and reds don’t even know why the bitterness started. Sadly it’s just a sign of the times we live in. But, and though they didn’t blame us at the time, the bitterness stemmed from Heysel. Because, as we went on to dominate domestic football, their great team of the time began to fall apart and so behind. The bitterness then started to creep out in the late 80′s and has grown and grown to the point that, even older fellas who should know better are caught up in it, and the younger kids, who don’t even know why it started, are just left to get worse.
But it doesn’t really matter where it started.
Stopping it is what matters. And, although it’s still not as bad as in some places, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, London, etc., something needs to be done. A Cup, League title, and a couple of home coming parades would be a nice start. But I think the club’s themselves need to make a stand. They must threaten to ban all fans who caught up in this nonsense, and they must clamp down on things like “Murderers” chants.
Anyway, happy day. Roll on Tuesday. Hope the mancs are low on confidence and personel for the Pompey game. And the Toffees play Chelsea wednesday. Could be an interesting week this.

I think that had old mother Riley awarded the Mancs their “penalty” the useless fuckers would have missed it anyway!
Now let’s keep our fingers crossed that we can beat the Arse and Portsmouth can get something at Old Toilet. If those two results happen the Mancs will shit themselves.
Sandwiched between their CL games with the Arse, the Mancs face a trip to “fighting for their Premier Leauge lives” Middlesborough. Won’t be an easy game, that one. Keep believing lads, keep believing!

This is the point I was trying to make FS.
My uncle’s bitterness towards us stems from having seen them at their pomp, and then had to endure me giving him loads when we were riding high and they were battling relegation.
My poor cousin, (much younger than me) never even saw them in their pomp… he’s just bitter coz he’s dyed in blue, I’m dyed in red, and I can pretty much always laud over him, coz he’s never seen them win anything.
I think its dead sad, coz I was never more filled with pride than before, during and after the two ALL Merseyside FA Cup Finals!
I was in the Statse at the time, but I’ll never forget the images of reds and blues sitting together … and particularly on the edge of the pitch in 89 (especially considering the whole fencing thing of the times)
Though again… we won both bloody finals, so we feel pretty good about them. I can understand the bitterness, coz look how bitter we are towards the Mancs… and on the whole, we’ve kept pretty close to them.
Anyway as you said… I hope they beat the Chavs, but fuck ‘em otherwise… coz we’ve got biiger puffer fish to fry!

Sorry to intrude and to respond to yesteday`s news, but the sketchy news on Sky International about Fergie slamming Rafa made me curious, and eventually upset, so I decided to write, and this is how I, a foreign supporter, see things:
The MU boss is trying to damage LFC and to hurt Benitez.
He says that Rafa`s gesture meant the game was over and that it reflected arrogance and contempt, and I say perhaps yes, according to Rafa`s judgement, on purely professional terms, the game was “over” — what`s wrong with that?? Arrogance?! contempt?! where is the connection?
He says the Blackburn`s coach was not invited for a post-match meeting or drink as the custom is in the UK (being a foreigner I don`t know), and if this is the case there is always a way to correct it.
But as I read in the Guardian, he also criticized Rafa for getting more control over transfers at LFC, and I find it most revealing: does he resent THAT?! is LFC his turf??
Perhaps he thinks Everton is, since he volunteered to “defend” them (he also shops there).
Indeed, he seems to believe that other places were also his turf, like a real control freak.
And in this context, perhaps his lowest point was the “enlisting” of “others” (who??), against Rafa`s so called arrogance, because in human terms, this is an attempt to isolate.
(Talking of “his” turf, I avoid on purpose his allusion to LFC`s past greats.)
In short, his words speak volumes of arrogance,
but decency counts, and it does not speak loud.
I hope Rafa does not respond, not in the same token.
The best for you and the manager,
(and sorry for having no humor…)

Redboy, you forgot
E) Disrespectful to the FA and the Cup
F) Disrespectful to all the faithful (misguided though they might be) Manc fans, who made the long trek from various parts of London and paid money to watch their team compete to win a semi-final… only to look at the teamsheet and think, “who the fuck are these guys?”
G) Disrespectful to David Moyes, who apparently manages such a big club that Fungus had to field a …er… reserve strength team. (hmmm????)
Now I don’t know if I’m making too much out of this, but given he had to lead the line with a bunch of kids… did anyone else think Tevez’s whole body language from the start screamed… PISSED OFF??
I hope so, coz if we can take the Prem off them and they don’t win the CL, how many of these guys will stick around?
Will Ronaldo finally tire of the “young boy” shit and fuck off?
Will Tevez tire of being a bit part player when he’d walk into any other team?
Would… er… nevermind, coz the rest of them are shite!

But would you believe it, I will wake up at 2am and go watch the Arsenal game at Cobra (yes, they are opening up for 50-60 for us crazy fans) come Wednesday morning ( Tuesday UK Time).
And FS, you are welcome anytime to Malaysia and the Cobra Club. If you give me your e-mail address I shall e-mail you some of their earlier copies of weekly E-magazines.
I shall be in the UK 27Apr-16 May, but shall miss the games at Anfield as I will be spending time with my son and daughter in law who are in London on holidays around Brighton and Bath.

From The Guardian –
“I don’t know how the referee didn’t give the penalty but that is the way it goes,” said Ferdinand. “We don’t get many penalties these days. Referees are reluctant to give them to us. Maybe they are being put under pressure by people in the media but that is the way it goes.

Ahahahaa, this is just so great especially when a liverpool based team does it. The game was shit, but so were the mancs, and that’s what you get for disrespecting an opponent in a semi-final. Dear oh dear, what a waste of fucking money for all those poor souls that went to the stadium and had to watch a reserve manc side. And lose. hahahahaha.
I just don’T know why old taggart does not get slated for his judgment; right down to his bench selection; no change of pace whatsoever!!

Funny how it takes a ‘rant’ to finally open some eyes to the shite spewed by Fungusface!
And to top it off, the man himself says of the ‘penalty’ he didn’t get against Everton: “Somebody filled David Moyes’s head full of nonsense about it and it was used in the press conference.” Another reference about Rafa??

Fergie, the “Master of Mind Games” – how many times have we heard that this season? Tell us, exactly what mind games has he won so far? Moyes effectively slaughtered him with his Riley comments before the game, you can bet Riley would’ve called it a penalty otherwise. All Fungus could do in response is start raving about Rafa and then send out his reserves. Master of Mind Games my arse.

If Everton had played like that against us, we’d have tonked them, even with a team of reserves… and we’d have been playing Scum today.
Everton today looked a shadow of the side that fought us over two games.
And Scum deserved to get knocked out on pens after the way they taunted JT and the Chavs when JT slipped int he CL final. Van Der Sar’s celebration was disgusting, as if he’d had anything to do with it!

Anyone see what Van Basten said about Babel?
Former Holland manager Marco van Basten gave voice to very strong feelings concerning Ryan Babel, specifically pertaining to his continued inability to force himself into Liverpool’s starting lineup.
Van Basten suggested the 22-year-old, who made a £11.5 million switch from Ajax in 2007, is wasting away at Anfield as a consequence of leaving his homeland too early
“If you look at Ryan Babel it is a mortal sin he now sits on the bench at Liverpool,” van Basten told the Daily Star Sunday. “He went too soon.
“He was playing well in Holland and for the Under-21s but now he has taken a step backwards.”
Babel recently suggested that he may look elsewhere for regular first-team football after admitting to becoming frustrated over his lack of playing time. The jet-heeled winger has made only six Premier League starts this season for the title hopefuls this season, supplemented by 17 appearances from the bench.

I’ve got a feeling Babel will be on his way out in the summer, to fund someone like David Silva heading this way. It’s hard to see where it all went wrong with Babel, after such a promising debut season. I won’t argue with Rafa, but I just think Babel is the kind of player who will only flourish when he is set free. That obviously doesn’t suit Rafa’s style, and as I said I won’t argue with that, Rafa did admit that he saw the purchase of Babel as a risk at the time.

I think Ireland is a talent, but I am just not sure about his mentality. He is definintely a bit of a weirdo from all the reports I hear, and if anything, will probably be quite a sulker if he is not assured a starting place every single week. It is one thing lying trying to get out of a national side (suits as really well!!) but if he starts being wacko to us, well….
I think Arda Turan could be worth a look, if we cannot afford silva. He can play on either flank, can sit behind torres, and can also play full-back. But more importantly, he says he wants to play for us.

I was thrilled when we signed Babel, and I feel he’s got a tremendous upside when it comes to talent. I just don’t get the sense he’s got the bottle to make it.
We all seem to have a sense in what Rafa’s looking for in a player. It’s not always the guy with the best talent who gets onto the pitch, but the guy who’s going to outwork the opposition. Babel doesn’t’ appear to be that kind of player.
Guardian is reporting this morning that Wenger would be interested in a £8 million bid for Babel. What did we pay for him, £11.5?
I don’t know if we need to take a £3.5 million loss to move him off, but I won’t be gutted to see him gone.

Congrats to our Small Neighbors for their win yesterday. It made my weekend and I would have been extremely bitter if the Mancs reserve squad had made it through to the final.
I would love to see them win the FA Cup, and I think it would be grand if we played them in the Community Shield come August.
I’m not Gollum’s biggest fan, but he’s done a hell of a job this season with all the injuries they’ve suffered.
If they end up winning the Cup, they will have done it the hard way, beating the teams that finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in the table (Liverpool, Mancs, Chelsea, and Villa).
Contrast that with Chelsea’s Cup run: Saturday’s match against Arsenal was the first time Chelsea had played a team from the Prem.

I’m on edge for tomorrow night’s match against the Arse. No Stevie G, although we did grab a point at the Emeriates back in December without Nando. Just thinking back on that Robbie Keane wonder strike brings a smile to my face.
If we do find a way to grab all three points, that would give us 16 out of 18 against the big Four. Quite a turnaround from Rafa’s first few seasons. If you would have told me that at the beginning of the season, I’d have figured on us winning the league with ease.
Just reading on ESPN Soccernet:
“Robin Van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor have been ruled out of Arsenal’s game against Liverpool on Tuesday night. Both were substituted at the weekend against Chelsea with Adebayor suffering a hamstring injury and Van Persie struggling with a groin problem.”
That’s a good start, and Alumina won’t be back until the weekend at the earliest. Arsenal are still able to put goals on the board without Van Persie and Adebayor, so we’ve still got some work to do.
Hopefully we can grab the win and continue to keep the pressure on the Mancs. I’m guessing the Tramp sees this is one fixture where we could slip up.

LB, I agree we shouldn’t send him to a rival, especially at a cut rate. I wouldn’t sell him to Arsenal; I expect them to be genuine Prem contenders next season.

No Van Persie or Adebayor but I still worry about Eduardo, Arshavin, Walcott and Fabregas. They have a few defenders out and of course the goalie.
No Gerrard is a blow. Just hope we can squeeze out 3 points and have Stevie back ASAP!

I agree. Even with those two strikers out, the Arse are still very capable indeed.
For this game we should be fresher than them so I think we must keep doing what we have been doing recently and take the game to them from the off. I predict a narrow home victory, probably 1-0 or 2-1.

Rafa plays the press perfectly again today.
Instead of having to deal with the stupid questions regarding Fat Sam and the Tramp’s remarks from last week, Rafa sends Sammy Lee (Sam’s right hand man at Bolton) out to do his press conference today.
Sammy’s best line: “I’m surprised he (Sam Allardyce) didn’t mention anything to me when we were sat having a drink after the game. No one mentioned anything, and I’m sure if anyone felt strongly about it they would have. But we’ll move on.”
The Tramp came out with some more today; it’s almost like Bizzaro-world for me, Whiskey Nose almost begging for help from Wenger:
“I don’t know what Arsene will be thinking about tomorrow but no matter what, Arsenal always try,” Ferguson said. “That is the mantra of Arsene himself. He is a winner. “Providing they try, it is all I can ask for.”
“I am not concerned about tomorrow’s game,” Ferguson said, referring to Arsenal’s visit to Anfield. “I will concern myself with my own team. That is enough for me to think about.”
He’s not concerned about our match, but for some reason he feels the need to discuss it?
Hopefully we can put three points on the board tomorrow, and then Rafa can play with the press afterwords.
Well done, Don Rafa.

I have just caught up on all the comments on the last few blogs. Belated congratulations to corklfc and Fat Scouser for their new additions to their family trees.
Whatever happens tomorrow, I have thoroughly enjoyed this season, and the progress that Liverpool has made has been fantastic.
The posters on KopBlog has added to my enjoyment of the good times and carried me though the tough times, long may you continue.
The season is definitely not over yet, onwards and upwards.

That Fergie is a sly old bugger, he knows all the tricks in the book. I wonder will Rafa respond to his latest attack especially beacause this one questions his character.
