Man City vs Liverpool
Sun., 5 Oct. 3pm | City of Manchester | Premier League

Liverpool travel to Eastlands to face the new money-men of the Premier League, Man City, on Sunday afternoon (3pm kick off).

Mark Hughes’ side will provide a tough test for Rafa Benitez’s unbeaten Reds, with Brazilian Robinho and winger Shaun Wright Phillips their man threats in attack.

Last season in this fixture a Richard Dunne inspired City held Liverpool to a frustrating 0-0 draw. While the return fixture at Anfield on the last day of the season saw Fernando Torres score the only goal of the game as he became the highest scoring foreigner in a debut Premier League season.

Benitez is likely to recall Javier Mascherano to add steal to the Liverpool midfield, the Argentinian was on the bench in the 3-1 win over PSV in midweek. Apart from that it is likely to be an unchanged Reds side. Who Mascherano replaces in the side isn’t so clear cut, with Xabi Alonso or Albert Riera expected to miss out.

Robbie Keane will be looking to claim his first league goal having opened his account for the club in midweek, and will start alongside Torres up front.

City have former Liverpool legend Didi Hamann in their ranks, he has featured irregularly this season but could feature on Sunday if Hughes opts to add protection to his back four, he has, however, been using new signing Vincent Kompany in the holding midfield role of late.

City go into the game on the back of a Uefa Cup win on Thursday night, while Liverpool enjoyed a Champions League win on Wednesday night. In their last league game though, City were defeated by Wigan, while Liverpool enjoyed derby success over Everton.
