Liverpool maintained their unbeaten home record with a win over Manchester City. A Steven Gerrard strike from 20 yards was enough to insure Liverpool’s win mid-way through the second half. Liverpool ruled much of the 90 minutes, with Dutch pair Dirk Kuyt and Bolo Zenden all having a well mannered performance. Peter Crouch came close with his over powered chip and Luis Garcia also should have made a goal chance but to greedily strike it wide even with strike pair Crouch and Kuyt to look for.

Reading’s fine form continued with a 1-0 win over ten-men Fulham. Ian Pearce brought down on form striker Kevin Doyle in the box to be sent off and have Doyle convert the penalty.

Charlton held Everton to a 1-1 draw at the Valley. A Hermann Hreidarsson own goal put the Toffees into the lead in the second. But Irishman Andy Reid pulled a goal back for the Addicks and to earn Les Reed’s side a much needed point.

Former Derby County striker Malcolm Christie put his side Middlesbrough into the lead as he hit home from what looked like an offside position. But Aston Villa equalised two minutes later after former Celtic midfielder Stilian Petrov went down easily at the hands off Mark Schwarzer and Gareth Barry to smash home the penalty in a game which finished equally at
1-1.

West Ham celebrated their first win under new rule with a 1-0 win over lowly Sheffield United. A Hayden Mullins header from a Matt Etherington corner was enough to get the Hammers the points while new owner Eggert Magnusson was present in the stand.

Bolton kept their great record against Arsenal going with a fully deserved 3-1 win. Aboulayde Faye scored the opener at the Reebok before Brazilian midfielder Gilberto equalised, both goals headers. Former Red and Arsenal moaner Nicholas Anelka proved his worth with a fabulous strike to beat Jens Lehmann from over thirty yards. The Frenchman then sealed the win for the Trotters with a second goal as he swept the ball past the Arsenal number 1.

Antoine Sibierski earned the three points for Newcastle against Portsmouth but re-born again Kieron Dyer stole the show at St. James’ Park. The match ended 1-0 after Sibierski scored from a play which incuded Obafemi Martins and Charles N’Zogbia. However Martins had a goal wrongly crossed off as replays show the Nigerian was being kept onside by Sol Campbell, while Dyer’s pace and penetration ended Newcastle’s nine games run without a win.

Jermaine Defoe and Dimitar Berbatov scored as Tottenham cam from behind to beat Wigan 3-1. Henri Camara volleyed in the opener in the 25th minute after Teale and Camara came close early on. Before half time Spurs equalised with Jermaine Defoe equalised after being found by Berbatov to score his 50th Premiership goal in his 100th game for the Londoners. Just seoonds later Berbatov made his own goal as he nutmegged Jackson and fired past Chris Kirkland. Aaron Lennon then sealed the win for Spurs as he slotted the ball past the former Liverpool ‘keeper.

Manchester United stayed three points ahead of rivals Chelsea in the table as they drew 1-1 at Old Trafford. The tie was tipped as the biggest game of the season so far but did little to prove the title. Louis Saha scored the first on the half hour mark but Chelsea came back fighting in the second half. Ricardo Carvalho equalised for the Blues with a thumping header into the net in the 70th minute. Chelsea came close more then once with Geremi and Makelele all coming close while Christiano had a trademark free tipped over by Chelsea’s Carlo Cudicini.
