This Is Anfield visitors have given their confidence to Xabi Alonso to play in Liverpool’s central midfield alongside captain Steven Gerrard.

The poll, running on the site over the last week, asked fans to choose Gerrard’s midfield partner between Alonso, Mascherano and Momo Sissoko.

From the 706 votes registered, Alonso came out top with 358 votes. Mascherano was a close second with 306. Whilst, after an off-form season, a mere 42 fans gave their confidence to Sissoko.

However, as Wednesday night’s Champions League semi-final against Chelsea suggested, we could be seeing line-ups that include Gerrard alongside both the Spainard and Argentine internationals who topped our poll.
