
Scot Carson was sent off in Aston Villa’s 4-1 defeat to Manchester United. With Villa 3-1 down, Carson was sent off in the 66th minute after a foul on Carlos Tevez in the penalty area. Rooney missed the penalty and therefore missed the chance to score a hat trick.
Danny Guthrie started for Bolton yesterday in their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal. Guthrie started on the right side of midfield and was replaced in the 77th minute by Stelios Giannakopolous.
Adam Hammill failed to make Southampton’s squad for their game against Cardiff on Sunday. The Saints won 1-0, with Robbie Fowler missing a good chance for Liverpool’s opponents in the next round of the Carling Cup.
Also Besian Idrizaj failed to make Crystal Palace’s 1-1 draw with Blackpool. Palace now have Neil Warnock in charge so Idrizaj’s Liverpool link may not do him any favours!
Godwin Antwi’s Hartlepol’s game with Paul Anderson’s Swansea on Satuday was postponed after young Pool’s winger Michael Maidens was killed in a car crash.
Lee Peltier started for Yeovils as they drew 1-1 with Bristol Rovers. Peltier was a doubt for the game afer suffering a recurrance of his ankle injury last Saturday against Carlisle when he was substituted at half time. However Peltier recovered in time for Yeovil’s game yesterday and played 65 minutes.
Jimmy Ryan also failed to make Shrewsburys squad yesterday. While James Smith also failed to make Stockport’s squad yesterday as Stockport lost 2-1 to Chester. Former Liverpool youngster Richie Partridge scored twice for Chester.
