Thursday’s News Round-up: Reds in for Czech?
Written by Max Munton on December 20th, 2007

According to reports published today, Liverpool are among seven clubs who are eyeing up signing Fiorentina’s Czech international Tomas Ujfalusi at the end of the season.

Ujfalusi’s contract with Fiorentina expires in the summer, meaning clubs can talk to the defender from January 1st 2008 about signing on a free transfer.

Ujfalusi’s agent, Dalibor Lacina, claims, “A lot of clubs are interested in him, we will decide in the summer. The clubs which have been questioning us about him are Inter, Juventus, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, Zenit St Petersburg, Tottenham and Sevilla.”

Meanwhile Peter Crouch has explained his moment of madness which saw him sent off during the second half of Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Carling Cup last night.

Just moments after Frank Lampard had given the Blues the lead with a lucky deflection off Jamie Carragher, Crouch lunged in for a two-footed tackle on Jon Obi Mikel.

The Reds striker claims he was frustrated by a bad tackle from behind on him from Mikel. He said, “Mikel came in with his studs up and that was in the back of my mind. Then I thought there was another foul in there and obviously I’ve lost my head,” said the striker.

“There are no excuses for the tackle I made but if the referee had pulled the foul up when he should have done it wouldn’t have happened.

“A lot was going their way and I think frustration got the better of me. You give and take with referees and sometimes the decisions go for you and sometimes they don’t so you can’t always blame them.”

And this afternoon’s Reserves’ friendly at West Ham’s training complex was called off due to a frozen pitch.
