Thursday’s News Round-up

Daniel Agger’s expected return to football this evening was delayed when the Liverpool Reserves’ trip to Blackburn Rovers was cancelled after a pitch inspection.

Agger has not featured in any action since injuring a metatarsal during the Red’s 0-0 draw at Portsmouth on September 15th, but was set to play in tonight’s Reserves game.

However Blackburn’s pitch was deemed waterlogged and Agger will have to wait some longer before making his return. No new date for the fixture has been made yet.

Despite this, the Danish central defender’s comeback must be just around the corner. Earlier in the day, Agger had revealed his delight at finally overcoming his long-term injury.

He said, “I’m almost there, but of course I am going to need some playing time.

“Running around on the training ground is not the same as doing it on the pitch, but I’m almost back to full fitness now.

“I can’t describe the feeling really. Especially as I’m here in Liverpool to play football. When you’re not able to play, then well, I won’t say there’s no point in me being here, but it can sometimes feel that way.

“I’m looking very much forward to getting back. It is not fun being on the sidelines, especially not when you’re at a club like this.”

Midfielder Momo Sissoko is nearing a move to Italian giants Juventus, according to the man himself.

It is believed Liverpool have agreed to let the Mali international go to the Serie A club for a fee of around £10million.

Despite some late interest from his former club Valencia, Sissoko revealed today it looks as if he is heading for Italy, “My agent, Juve and Liverpool are working on my departure.

“Everyone is asking me whether I have already signed: I haven’t yet but my move to Juventus is very close. I’m expecting the good news any moment now, but I’m enthusiastic about beginning a new adventure in Italy with the Bianconeri.”

And Jamie Carragher is refusing to give up hope on Liverpool’s title bid aspirations for this season, despite the Reds being 12 points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Carragher said, “Obviously it’s disappointing to fall away a bit in the league but we’re still only half way through.

“There’s still a long way to go. Obviously we’re outsiders now but we still want to make a challenge. The season’s still well alive.

“There’s no point throwing the towel in, just keep going and try and win the next game. By the time there are eight to ten games left we might have pulled half of that back.

“It might be down to five or six points and you might be back in it then.”
