Skrtel passes medical as Momo welcomes Juve approach
Written by Max Munton on January 8th, 2008

Tuesday’s News Round-up

Slovakian international defender Martin Skrtel is set to put pen to paper on a contract at Liverpool that will see him move from Zenit St Petersburg to Anfield for £6million.

The tall 23 year old has been capped by his country 15 times and was at Melwood today to pass his medical prior to signing.

The deal should go through in time for Slrtel to be eligible to play in the Reds’ Premier League trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

More transfer speculation, rumours and discussion can be found here.

Liverpool’s FA Cup third round replay at home to League One strugglers Luton Town will be shown live on Sky Sports. The match takes place next Tuesday, January 15th with an 8pm kick-off time. The winner faces a home fourth round tie against either Havant and Waterlooville or Swansea City.

Reports in the papers and circulating on the internet since suggest Jamie Carragher was involved in an ugly incident at the end of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Luton Town’s Kenilworth Road on Sunday.

After completing his warm down after the disappointing result, it is reported that Carragher was given abuse including being spat at and having beer thrown at him.

A Liverpool club spokesman said, “At the end of the warm-down, Jamie went back to sign autographs for youngsters in the executive boxes. Unfortunately, he was subjected to a tirade of foul-mouthed abuse and also had beer thrown at him.”

It is believed Carragher acted angrily, but not aggressively, to taunts about Scousers and his family.

And Momo Sissoko has spoken to a French radio station today about his desire to seal a January transfer to Italian giants Juventus.

Unable to pin down a first team place at Liverpool, the Mali international who is now on his way to play for his country in the African Nations Cup, could well have played his last game for the club.

Juventus are thought to be leading the race to capture the £11million midfielder, and Sissoko says he is ready for a new challenge.

“I hope they can find an agreement,” he told a French radio station

“I am really happy that a club like Juventus want me. Right now, I want a new challenge.

“The last few months with Liverpool have not gone as I wanted. But this is the nature of football and I now have the chance to go somewhere else and show what I can do.”
