Under pressure chief executive Rick Parry has dismissed claims by The Times newspaper that Liverpool may be forced to sell Fernando Torres and Ryan Babel if a resolution on club ownership isn’t made this summer.
The Times claimed that £31.5million was borrowed by the club to buy the Spanish striker and Dutch winger last season and with a disruption in the business partnership of co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett could mean the club must offload the pair to pay back the debt.
But Parry has rejected the story as “garbage”.
He said, “I want to make it clear in the simplest and most straightforward terms that the purchases of Fernando and Ryan were funded in the same way as every other transfer.
“The scope for any other interpretation is nil.”
